Stealing time

If you get paid by the hour,do you try to get some extra minutes? I mean coming in early and leaving late.
I do sometimes, but no more than 10-15 min,I would feel bad if I had to hang around more doing nothing. Usually that happens when I want a little revenge due to messy schedule, coworkers calling off etc.
But recently I've seen a coworker come in half an hour early and she clocked right on time. When asked why she replied "Well,I wasn't working!". What honesty!
But on the other hand, what's the purpose of coming in early, then?;)

I'm not sure if I get what you mean but I'll try to state my own condition and situation as honestly as I could.
I've been working as a financial analyst in a local bank for more than 4 years now but I'm afraid that by the end of the first quarter of the coming year, I will be one of the many employees who will be displaced from our jobs; because the company is in the process of dissolution. In fact, it has already retrenched about 20 of my former co-employees due to financial difficulties.
There is an internal policy here in our company that we aren't allowed to render overtime once we incur a 30-minute penalty for a given day. Whenever I become late, I tend to offset it through staying for a few additional minutes before leaving the workplace. Our normal daily office hours is from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon. For instance, if I arrive in the office at 8:30am, I tend to stay until 5:30 pm, without any additional payment for this; but my 30-minute late will definitely be proportionately deducted from my outstanding balance of vacation leaves. But when I arrive in the office earlier than 8am which is quite extraordinary, I tend to head home at exactly 5pm. So, my net take home pay will still be the same.
Anyway, one of the measures which the company thought of to reduce expenses was the prohibition of rendering overtime work by any employee. Somehow, this helped in the reduction of costs. However, as a result of this cost-cutting measure, I was personally affected because I used to do overtime work so that paperworks won't get piled up on my desk; aside from earning extra bucks.
Happy holidays!

When I had my job during the summer, I would come in on time but then leave probably fifteen minutes and say I am taking my break. I just did not enjoy my job (data entry!) and it was way to boring for me. I was supposed to get there at 7:30 but if I got there anytime before 7:45 I wrote down taht I started at 7:30. No one was there to check and I was really good at my job anyway, so it would seem like I did work for those fifteen minutes. Also I would find myself getting distracted online very easily. I sometimes would sit there for 15 to 20 minutes not doing anything but listening to something online or watching a show online. I felt bad for it, but my supervisor didn't really care.

Fair enough. Data entry is very boring, was the pay OK?
That could be a good topic for another discussion-do you folks have specific time for your breaks?

Pay was 9.50 an hour, not bad for a job in high school. During the summer I was doing it eight hours a day too. Not fun at all.

Sadly most of my previous employers wouldn't pay you for any extra time over your shift even if you worked it, so I would never really have the ability. The only nice thing is that it means when my shift is over - it's over. I never feel obligated to stay if I'm not getting paid.

It's quite difficult to get paid overtime at my job,as well. But that's a good ol' petty way to get back at them:D

hi,
here in my work they will never allow us to have an extra paid time or the overtime,so we can not really steal time to pay by the company, but there were times that we alter our time in like doing adjustments of our schedule, sometimes we talked to the guard so that they will sign our card in early time.
