Is it possible to support the troops, but hate the war?

I was like that years ago. I would say I support the troops but hate the war. Of course that has changed. But I'm reading how some people would just go off on how horrible the US is, about how we're killers, and that Bush is evil incarnate...yet a few seconds later they say "but I support the troops". How can somebody say all this negative stuff and then say that? You support someone but don't like what they do? I think I'm going to have to call BS on this. I don't think you can support the troops and hate the war so much. What say you?

Starr, I know that you can support the troops, and not support the war. I DO. I have a very good friend in Iraq right now, serving his country, but he doesn't support this war either. Our men and women in uniform are like any other American, they have a job, and a boss. Just like you, when your boss tells you to do something, you do it. This is their job, like it or not. These men and women didn't start this war, they are just ending it. Using your logic, you would have to blame everyone that worked for Bernard Madoff for his $50 Billion dollar fraud, even though they didn't know what was going on. But, because they did what they were told, they should go do jail. Sound about right?

I'm sorry but I have to respectfully disagree because I KNOW I hate the war but I also know I support the troops. I have three nephews in the military, two of whom recently returned from Afghanistan. I supported going into Afghanistan and getting Bin Laden but not going into Iraq; my nephews and so many thousands of others like them shouldn't have had to risk their lives in Afghanistan because that war should have been over, instead it's worse than it was when we first went there in some ways and in some areas. I would NEVER say the U.S. is horrible but I have said our leaders have made mistakes. It's definitely possible to support the troops without supporting their Commander-In-Chief. Many of the troops themselves feel that way, that much I know for a fact.

It does seem to be something of a contradiction to say that you support the troops but yet don't like the war. I myself am not happy with the war at all. I feel that I should support the troops however I wish that they could just come back.
Now I don't really know too many personally that are over seas right now. They are brave people that do need America's support. It can be easy for them or their families.
