Engagement Ring Insurance

I just went through the ordeal of getting my engagement ring insured, and I was just wondering what everyone has gone through to do this? I got it appraised at a jewelers that only had to keep my ring for about 40 minutes. And it only cost 12 dollars. I had called two other jewelers and one said it would take a week because they sent it away (not sure on price) and the other said it would stay in store but be held for a week and it would cost 55 dollars. I thought these were terrible options. Anyway, the policy is added to my moms homeowners insurance until my fiance and I get married and have either homeowners or renters insurance of our own. What have you done?
