OK, my fellow Mylotters, a slight disclaimer before I begin, I am rather cranky today! I am tired, sore and just downright snarly.
With that being said, I have been a member of Mylot for just over a week now. In that time, I have met a lot of interesting people and had a few interesting conversations. Sadly, I've also met a few very stupid individuals. Seriously, I'm sitting here wondering to myself, how some of these people managed to get themselves out of bed this morning?
I realize that the Internet is anonymous, and that if you can think of it or imagine it, its here on the Internet. So, I don't think I have blinders on nor is my head buried in the sand. But, even though you are sitting alone in front of a computer screen, the Internet lives forever! I will not say anything here that I would not say in public. It amazes me at times the permission people give themselves online to say and do things they would never otherwise do.
To all you job seekers out there, does everyone realize that your perspective employer will "google" your name just to see what pops up? They probably won't be all that impressed with you being falling down drunk last Saturday night.
So, there is my opinion, feel free to say what ever would like to online, just think about whether or not you would be willing to stand behind that opinion, in broad daylight !
OK everyone, I'm done my rant what do you think? Now it's your turn.
Thanks!

hmmm interesting questions.
I have put stuff on here that I wouldn't necessarily want my employers to know.
I see this and some other places online as a social networking place.
This is where I go to be social. It's not where I go to impress my potential employers.
I leave my dazzling for employers for my resume and my interviews. If I want to get stinking drunk on Saturday night, it really is my business as long as on Monday morning I'm ready to get work and I am competent at doing my job, it really shouldn't be their concern what I do on my own time.

I feel that what you say on the net can't be held against you as a professional. For all we know people might be making things up because it makes them more interesting. Don't believe everything you read or hear. Everyone has skeletons in the closet. Some people just let them out from time to time lol. Don't judge because you don't know what a person is going through. OK I'm done giving my two cents :)

Can't be held against you by and employer or SHOULDN'T be. Those are two very different things. I think the reality is that potential employers are doing a search, just out of curiosity if nothing else, and they will form an opinion about what they see.
Now, whether they judge any behavior as bad or unacceptable is a whole other matter, but they will form an impression. It is human nature to make assumptions about what we see all the time in order for us to organize all the information that is coming at us if any given time.

I believe in telling it like it is.
Not like some folks who put on a show for the outside and then inside their homes they are the opposite. I have no problems with anyone seeing what I say. We all have our own opinions and ways of leading our lives which may not be the same choice as others. No point in being one person online and another off as sooner or later your act gets revealed as being false - and that's worse in my opinion.

Well yes there can be some people that do not hink before they post BUT as for their employer finding their msges that would be pretty hard if their employer looks up their name because most people here have not used their real name as their nickname. So I don't see there being a problem in that area.

Hi There!
Yes, I think before creating my own discussion especially when it is too personal but I have to admit that there are discussions that are really personal for me though I share it to the Internet. I didn’t think that it would harm me or others… really… For me, it is their choice if they want to write something personal about themselves… though of course, I don’t recommend it all the time, we need to be careful…
Happy Mylotting and Happy Mylotting! Cheers!

Yeah, I have never given into the whole anonymity thing. I always assume that my words will somehow be rbought back to my attention and I will have to be held accountable for them. this doesn't make me particularly careful about what I say....I just choose to be honest. this way I don't have anything to be ashamed of should anything I have written be thrown back in my face. I do however reserve some topics for Real Life conversations rather than blogs. some things require that you have the opportunity to explain yourself and have th eopportunity to clear up any misunderstandings that the listener may have. Yeah, I understand your irritation.

i have never said anything online that i wouldnt say in public, or to a future employer, i can be very sarcastic idiotic childlike and sinical at times but never mean to offend but i can also be very mature and understanding and i do think heavily before i start to type, but due to past events and my current situation i often find that i will read posts and have something to say buit wont say anthing incase people think im some total reject, and that my post is just a huge long moan.
as for a future employer not being impressed that i fell down drunk last saturday night, who cares, as long as i turn up for work on time monday sober and able to do my job, why should it bother them what i do in my own time. one of my previous employers was the one actually responsible for half the workforce doing this on a regular basis, as long as we sober at work he was fine.

You mean that people are dumb enough to talk about personal information online while using their real name? I've never used my real name or birth date for anything online. Therefore my identity is fairly concealed. I can't speak for the others.

Although I agree with some of your points I think there is another side to it. Some people may not have anyone else to talk to other than the friends they have made here(sad but true). Some people may feel that it is much easier to talk to someone about the stupid things they may have done when there is no face attached to it. For what ever reason if it works for them then I say what ever works. I just don't respond to a discussion if it's something that is too stupid for a response or it does not interest me.

Exactly why I dont use myspace or facebook. Everyone knows these sites and that will the first place an employer will look so if your going to it at least block it and only add people you really know.

I am just new here and yes I do think about the things I post. I am treating myLot as a fun activity with some compensation for my little effort. I am still trying to digest all the information I am getting from those with lots of experiences here.
I think the biggest concern of myLot is quality content and members. In the end this will probably which will determine how much or how you little you earn at myLot. Ironically this could also be the factor to know if you are having or not having fun here.
