It is definitely ok to jog at that age. Just don't overdo it. I believe there is a minimum amount of time you should do it. I'm not to sure how long you have to do that though. But I just that you consult your doctor and ask them what's the best thing that you should do to keep yourself healthy.

My dad is over 70. But he walks at a pace that most youngsters will find difficult to keep. It's all in the mind. However just make sure that you do not jog very fast suddenly as that is not good for the heart. Also when you are about to stop, slow down completely and then come to a stand still or sit down......Since you are already into yoga...U should be fine!!!

I am sure it is perfectly alright to jog as long as you are feeling fit . Yoga combined with yoga is sure to keep you very fit.I have never heard anyone saying that it is bad to jog after 50 or any age for that matter.i feel it depends on the individual's health and stamina- all the best to you :)

Yes, absolutely ok to be jogging at 54, your post immediately made me think of Wayne Dyer, who's a great example of this and speaks about jogging and exercise many times in his lectures.
Do wear some good running shoes that will absorb the impact from the asphalt, and keep your knees in shape, but other than that you should be able to run forever :)
I remember some documentary in which a doctor said that our joints are able to withstand vigorous daily exercise for at least 125 years, so no worries there :D
Peace and health

Jogging is a healthy and a very ideal way of exercising, it does not only make your knees strong but it makes your blood circulation good. At the age of 54, of course it is still ideal and very much applicable. According to what I learned in school, people needs exercise to help maintain the body's stamina, for us to feel more alive, and to feel young. For people who has hypertension, and high blood, this is the time for you to spend a spare time on your sneakers, ang jogging pants, and jettison yourselves to healthy lifestyle!...

it is ok ,because our heart muscle will get stronger after jogging a while .on the other hand ,if you sleep every noon ,i advise that you'd better to sleep a while less than 30 minutes .don't worry ,just jog a while and step by step.

It depends on your physical status. I recently learned from one of my friends that he is having problem with his knees. Earlier, he had pain in the knees after trips to some scenic spots in mountainous areas, and right after went to the gym for jogging excertises, attempting to ease the pain. But the result was the opposite, and he had to consult the doctor.
He was advised he should not have overburdened his knees. After treatment, even injections, he is always back to right now, but a great lesson, isn't it.
Overdoing is not recommended, but proper exercise to lubricate the knees is compulsory to keep in good order.

You can start safely by doing short jogging spurts of 30 to 60 seconds, interspersed with your walking. Gradually equal out the walk & jog times, then slowly increase the jogging times so you can go continuously. A good resource is Runnersworld.com for a good beginner walk/jog program.

Wow at your age you can still do that. i guess there's nothing wrong with that for as long as you don't suffer from any ailments like heart disease or something. Walking or slow pace jogging may even help you to avoid having those if you are free from it. To be sure I guess you better consult your doctor about it. Maybe let him decide at what pace can you do your jogging and at what pace you should limit it with your age. But I think you are doing a very good habit for yourself.

Hello!
Jogging is a healthy activity. I do not see why you should forbid yourself from doing it. However, I do believe and recommend strongly that you visit a doctor and check if you have any kind of heart disease, or something like that. If you do not, then it is completely perfect to jog. As you said, it will help you having better sleep and will also keep your body working in a better way.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

Some people keep jogging into their 90's so you are still a spring chicken yet. A word of caution though, I would get the old blood pressure checked and schedule a stress test with a cardiologist to make sure there is no underlying problem you are not aware of. If you get a clean bill of health, keep yourself active and do not overdo anything while keeping in shape and you should be ok for several decades yet.
