Hello everyone,
I have been wondering about Stretch Marks and cannot come up with any certain reasons as to why some women get stretch marks and yet others do not.
Yes, I hear what people say "Oh, you must have very elastic skin"......I think it does follow that women with very elastic skin dont get stretch marks but what else do these lucky ladies have in common?
I can tell you that I have had 5 children and have no stretch marks on my stomach at all. Not a single one. Whereas both my Mother and sister got lots of them.
When my daughters had children, one of them got hundreds of stretch marks and the other daughter got none at all.
So it isnt something that runs in families.
I cant really find anything in common with anyone with stretch marks other than the ones i know who DONT have them have all been smokers......but I cant see that being a good reason to take up that habit.
Does anyone have any good ideas or input?? Im really curious to know :-))

Every woman and pregnancy is different. Sometimes its just the genes. The cocoa butter doesn't work. I know a couple of friends who have no stretch marks. While some other friends do. Even one of my friends who is already a big girl. Its hard to tell why some do and some don't.

Thanks for responnding to the discussion.
I think I might be edging on the 'genes' side of things....although both my sister and my mother have them and I dont.
As for my children....one daughter has them badly and another daughter has none.
Isnt it strange?
And you are right in that cocoa butter doesnt work :)

I have never known any women who don't have stretch marks after having a baby. I could guess though that if they have a small baby and they didn't gain any weight with their pregnancy they might not get any marks. Stretch marks will fade with time. Not completely go away, but become less noticeable. By the way, my daughter smokes and she has as many stretch marks as I do.

It doesnt follow though.....I have had 5 children, 2 of which were 8 pounds+ and with all of them I put on more weight than "is healthy"......
..........I do not have 1 single stretch mark.
I have one daughter who does have stretch marks and one daughter who doesnt.
It doesnt seem to follow any pattern at all lol
