I'm an embarrassed Floridian again.

First it was the hanging chad issue in the 2000 presidential election. Now, it's the Caylee/Casey Anthony story. I live in Orlando about 10 minutes from the Anthony house. The media has made this story a royal circus. I don't want to sound insensitive but I can't believe how much they have blown this out of proportion. The murder of a little girl is tragic but it pails in comparison to other tragedies around the world ... 20 die here, 50 died here in a bombing.
Now, after months of searching all of south Orlando by an incredible number of people, they finally discover only a quarter of a mile from the Anthony home what we all know has to be her body.
That's totally embarressing!

Hi skeejen,
Welcome to myLot.
I live in Orlando as well and I have been aggravated by this whole thing. Hundreds of little children are killed and abused all the time. why are we focusing so much time and attention on this one. Sure it's tragic and terrible but what about all the other poor kids out there. In my mind I thought that the mother had killed her from the very first report. Who doesn't report their child missing for a month? Come on!
If they were a minority family would they have gotten so much attention? I doubt it. If the mom wasn't fairly cute and living a wild lifestyle, the press would have dropped it a long time ago. With our economic troubles, Obama being our first black president, wars in two countries, companies failing all over the place, people losing their jobs and houses etc. etc. you would think there would be other things to report on.
But maybe that's it. People want a distraction from all of that.
One more though, sorry. A quarter of a mile from the parents home? Really? Don't you usually start searches from the place that the child was last seen and work outward? Of course you do. But they say that the area was underwater during their searches in the summer. well I'm not a search expert but I would think that some one would make a note, "Area under water, check again in a week."

Hey there,
I did notice that nationally, FoxNews seems to be beating the drum the most. The others jump in when there's major news about it. Locally, all the stations cover it nightly (and the Sentinel daily). I ignored the story for a couple of months refusing to stoop that low. After a while, though, you couldn't help but to hear about it.
Did you ever go over to their neighborhood? I did one night to see how ridiculous it was. It was unbelievable. The news trucks had all their sattelite poles up and bright lights were everywhere. People with nothing better to do lined up the sidewalks holding their signs. This simple neighborhood with public access has been under seige for months. If I lived there, I probably could have sold my house to FoxNews for a decent price so they would have a place to stay next door to all "the action". That would have been one way to beat the mortgage collapse.

Lol. Great idea about selling the house to the news outlets.
No I never went there. I was tempted a few times just to see the circus but it felt more like slowing down to see the carnage of a car accident.
Well, you know what they say, "Consistency is the key to success." Well if nothing else we sure are consistent with wackiness here in the Sunshine State.
