Cell phones to be banned from colleges and schools........

India

I am from India. Now a days discussions and debates are going on around for banning cell phones from colleges and schools because some people use it for wrong purpose in the campuses and trouble others. I would say that cells should be banned from schools but banning the use of cell phones from colleges seems to be a cruel idea for me. School children definitely do not need a cell phone but we guys and gals do need them to stay connected. Another option is to ban cells with specifi features like camera or loud speaker facility. What do you think?

I think that cell phones should be banned as far as classes are concerned. They can be distracting to the students and the teacher. The phones should be kept turned off, or at least be kept in silent mode. Once they're out of class, they can have them, but not during.

I think that would really be a good idea if it would be banned in high schools, because being in high school wont even give you much time to use your cellphone unless only if it is break time or recess. High schools could just provide a landline phone for students to use if they would be dismissed and they would be calling their parents to fetch them. If you would be permitting cellphones in high schools it would be just like you are motivating students to use their phones in class hours. Unlike in colleges, students could sometimes get a lot of spare time to use their phones and i think college students are mature and responsible enough to know the appropriate time when to use their cellphones. I think college students are old enough to decide for their actions and face consequences if they did something wrong. :)

Becoming a children of aged below or near maturity is a time where they should not need cell phones. This is because some unneeded children will be influenced by the other friends and they lacks of ability to keep safe. However, high school and colleges are a little bit different. Some might need it, but most didn't really need it. They should also be trained to use the public phone as long as the infrastructure is prepared well. Higher than that level, there are no reason to ban cell phones.

They should be banned from Schools and Colleges, But I think that if they keep it turned off while not in class they should be allowed to keep them, as long as it desn't interfere with the School work.

I don't think it depends on age. Some school children need phones because of activities and needing to call their parents and say where they are andwhat time they'll be home. This fosters independence for both children and parents I think which is beneficial to both parties, especially if the child in question is disabled. Banning something is never the solution; only those who can't act right should be banned for using the technology.

i think you just have to be discreet..turn your phone to silent mode. dont use it while in class. your phone is your link when outside home. you just might never know someone is contacting you for emergency purposes.

I'm not sure about colleges but I do think cell phones should be banned from high schools... People who are in college should be grown up enough to have consideration for others... They should know to keep their cell phone in silet or vibrate mode & if they really need to, step out from the class/lecture for important calls... There's no reason for high school kids to do that... If it's really important enough, parents could call the school... When I was in high school, I've seen plenty of times when someone from the office came into classroom & told the teacher that one of the student has important call in the office...

Am not favor of banning the cell phone of the students maybe just to keep it off first while classes are going on. As parents provided them with cellphones so in case of problem or emergency they have something to use.

it's up for them to reprimand those caught misusing it or should they misuse it as long as not during their classes.

I think that students shouls have cell phones because they can use it for emergency. I think it should be taken away if not used the right way (ex. cheating on test).

i don't think cellphone should be banned in school. students can use this during emergencies so it's very helpful to them. but instead of bring the cellphone with them inside their bags or pockets, school can actually provide a locker or something to those students who owned a cellphone. they can only used the cellphone during breaks and when there's an emergency. in that way they will no be disturbed during classes.

not necessarily lockers for each and every students but atleast some place that they can keep their cellphone safely. you can never tell when an emergency will occur it's better to be ready than sorry.

its not at all possible to provide lockers for each and every student for their mobile.most of the students are using their cell phones in classroom itself .this may distract their studies.

This is a tough topic when it comes to high school kids who tend to be irresponsible about putting their phones on vibrate or silent if they bother to ignore them at all. It's far more common in high school to sneak texts during class than college. For High School I don't think phones should be banned but the use of cellphones in a distracting way should be addressed with detentions or other disciplinary methods. I don't think it's fair to ban cell phones, something that I needed throughout high school, completely.
