back slash freezes my computer

When someone sends me something with the back slash at the end of it / it freezes my computer. I downloaded the slashy (Slashy is a Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox and Netscape extension that fixes Windows backslash file separators in links and images.) from firefox; but that don't seem to help. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
