One Million Dollars to EACH American, Think about IT

With 3 million people in the country you could take the money for the Auto Bailout and pay each American 1 million dollars. That would most likely help the economy and I'm sure the employees of the 3 companies that aren't bailed out wouldn't complain. Regards

I', afraid your calcualtions are a bit off. You have too many 0s in there. It would be about 1000 each not 1000000000. Granted 1k each would do a lot of good to stimulate the economy.

Actually someone else gave me the calculation. I'll have to check it with him. I know the estimated bailout for Chrysler and GM was 15 billion and the population of the United States is 301,139,947. I'm afraid I'll have to get my calculator out. I still wouldn't mind the dough considering I'm in the state with the highest unemployment and our company just went under. Regards

That's three hundred million population, not 3 million. At 15 billion dollars that equates to $50 each. Not exactly a fortune. Lash

Great idea but your numbers are off. As of July 2008, the population of the US was estimated at more than 303 million. That breakdown is as follows: (I rounded the numbers off to make this easier.) 0-14 years old = 61,000,000 15-64 years old = 204,000,000 65+ years old = 38,000,000 So of those in tax paying years, we would have about 242,000,000. So $700,000,000,000 divided by 242,000,000 equals about $2892 per tax paying person.ope my math is right. These big numbers are mind boggling!

Ha ha. NO worries. Finance is what I do for a living. Believe me, we have worked through these plans in great detail. In my humble opinion, nothing good will come out of any of this is there is no accountability.

But the proposal for GM and Chrysler alone, excluding Ford, was 15 billion. I guess I should have worked it out myself before I posted, now you know why I mostly respond to discussions rather than create them. Regards

Personally, this might seem like a Good idea in theory, but would it really help out the Economy without a lot of Rioting and other problems as well? I know personally I would Love someone to hand me 1 million dollars, but money does not buy happiness, so this might bring a lot more problems than it is worth as well. I know that it would be nice if someone could really look at the Big picture overall, and focus on the American people and the Economy and try to help everyone get homes, jobs, etc. again to where people do not have to end up in worse shape in a yr. than they are in today. I am sure this is maybe something Obama is looking over for his 4 yrs. as President as well.

Whether it's 1k, 15k or whatever k...unless the credit freeze unfreezes, giving cash to individual citizens is not going to help the auto makers. I heard on the news earlier that you need a credit score in the 700's in order to be approved for a loan right now. That's too close to perfect for most folks.

I can't help but to feel like people aren't getting one major concept of the bail outs... they're LOANS. Maybe I'm underestimating people. But I keep seeing these ideas that we should give the bail outs to the people. Well, guess what? I don't want a 15,000 loan or even a 1,000 loan. What good is that gonna do me? It'll just put me and most everybody else even further in debt because we won't be able to pay it back. At least the government has a fairly good chance of getting most of this bail out money back at this point.

I could really see this causing massive inflation. Now that everyone has at least a million dollars, they can pay more for food, gas, ect. Also, what if people don't spend it? If they put in a cd, or something similar, to collect interest, it wouldn't help the economy at all. I also think the big 3 would complain if this was offered.
