Keep it or send it back?

If you order a dish from a restaurant and it is not up to your standards would you eat it or would you send it back? What factors would influence your decision? Would you be fearful that the staff of the restaurant would do something to the dish out of spite? Have you had any real life experiences with sending a dish back? What was the outcome? What are your thoughts?

I will and I have. The factors that influence my decision is taste, first of all, and secondly, how far from what I intended to eat my order turned out to be. If I order a steak medium rare and it's burned black I'm sending it back. If I order a seafood dish that I know is supposed to turn out one way and it turns out another, I'm sending it back. I'm never mean about it...I tell the server the problem nicely and I've never seen anyone appear upset about it. It's not that unusual in the restaurant business for patrons to ask that something be redone or corrected in some way so I doubt the kitchen staff are so thinned skinned as to be insulted. We've actually had our bill reduced because something wasn't prepared to our liking the first time. Remember, happy customers come back.....unhappy customers tell all of their friends never to visit.

It happens all of the time. I send it back and refuse a replacement. Then I tell them not to apologize because if they cared they wouldn't have served it to me. Then I tell them not to send the manager to my table because I don't like for people to lie to me and if they were doing their job it wouldn't have happened. Don't get me wrong sometimes a meal goes well. However 87% of the time there is something wrong. It is a curse. I'm fed up with people in restaurants doing a crappy job and I send it back. IF employees cared the percentage of problems with the food wouldn't be so high. Someone on myLot wanted to be a jerk and tried to blame where I was eating. It doesn't matter where it is. It could be McDonald's or the Outback Steakhouse. Something will go wrong. The point I'm getting at is people need to take pride in their work and show some concern when it comes to people's food. If they don't care about a job that involves serving other people they need to not apply.

if it was not what i ordered i'd send it back. if it didn't look like ithought it should i would send it back. i found a hair on my breakfast once & i sent it back. i don't eat out vert often so i want my meal to be pretty perfect. if the service is bad i can't wait for them to ask me if everything was alright. i'll sure tell them if it wasn't. they don't get a tip for bad service from me.

Depends on how bad they messed it up. usually i eat it, most of the time going out to eat is a luxury here in my house hold, its just so nice not to have to cook and do dishes! Plus im not a picky eater. My boyfriend on the other hand, we went to olive garden...hes a picky eater and very opinionated, sent his plate back 3 times, before he got tired of complaining. I was pretty embarrassed of the ruckus he made, but we got our meal for free.

I never send it back, I never want to make trouble, I'm just not assertve enough. The only time I ever said anything was the time I found a fried bug in my hash browns. That was a little much.

I would send it back. If I don't like it then I shouldn't have to pay for something I'm barely going to enjoy. I wouldn't be hard to deal with though, I would just ask my waiter or waitress if it would be okay to exchange this dish for something else. When I was a server I had a really difficult table that kept complaining about their food and trying to get more chicken wings with their plate or more meat on their sandwich. It was really frustrating to deal with them because every 2 minutes they'd be asking for me and asking for more than what they're supposed to have. I hated when people would do that and it would cause me to want to ignore them because I get scared they'll yell at me and put me down. I mean I didn't do anything mean to them when they got more food, they were just a really frustrating table to have.
