False dichotomy and a hopelessly loaded question to begin with. Your question relies on the idea that everybody has to pick one of these two options:
1. Cars, food, drinks, and other "things"
2. God and peace
Are you sure there aren't a few other pursuits which you could include in your question which wouldn't make it sound like you've already made your mind up about the conclusions? In fact, on a more basic level than that, can one not be an atheist and a non-materialist, for example? Similarly, is it not the case that a significant number of people are both of those things?

I would raher have both, thank you very much. As people i believe we need to have a balance. Concentrating on the materialistic life only is not good and we may fall in the danger of being greedy and wanting more all te time. Conentrating on the spiritual side only and ignoring the materailistic side is unrealistic and out of touch with our phyiscal needs. I believe God can give us both and striking the right balance netween the two can bring communion with God, peace, love and joy. Gpd bless you.
