Well I was visiting a friend and we were taking a walk around the neighborhood when I spotted a car parked, it was a very old model, probably 80's and looked quite abandoned, as we passed the car I saw a couple along with a little girl, probably 4 or 5 years old sleeping in the car! okay so I have seen some men sleeping in them but watching a family was well ... On the way I saw some people gathered around a fire they had started in a barrel. We walked back in silence perhaps with the same thought of appreciating what we had and my friend broke the silence and said that many families are now sleeping in the car, many middle class families have been affected by the global recession and the inflation associated with it. Reading it about in the news is one thing, getting down and actually looking at them was another. So my question is have you seen in an increase in more people becoming homeless lately? Thank You for you replies in advance.

Housing is a tough issue for people in developing countries, and the current economic storm is bring about more even in the developed countries.
Up here in China, we have the same issue. Rural people want to find opportunities in cities to start a new life. But for one reason or another, some are unable to decently settle down. They have to sleep in railway stations or under the bridges. But believe me, with official care being undertaken, the number is getting lower. The so called rural workers are being treated more or less on a fairer base. Their children are given the right to receive proper education like the urban kids. But still they have a long way to go before being a true urban resident.

Aha, So I see that this has been affecting China as well, but at least there is hope that the government has stepped to support all these people, hope everyone can prosper.

Nice to see you are back and actively taking part in mylot disscussions buddy :)
well i have seen people sleeping in cars before but an entire family is a new one for me. That goes to show how badly global recession has hit the populace, things are going from bad to worse.
The question that arises in my mind is what the heck are we going to do about it? we could help financially but how many can we take off the streets and out of cars? what do you think should be a comprehensive solution to this problem?

I slept in my car, not because of homeless reasons, but the boyfriend is a truck driver, and we drove super far for his orientation and had to sleep, his legs over the steering wheel and everything, for a few hours!

Yes... I have seen lots of people sleep in cars. Especially runaway teenagers. Once the teenager are old enough to drive and have a car but they are not old enough to live by themselves so they will go and sleep in their cars. Thsts why when you see people sleep in their cars, you will notice that the cars are oder model or as some people would say " cheap cars".
Actually I have experinced this. As a teenager when I would ahve arguments with my parents thn I would walk out and sleep in my cars.
