13 kinds of fruit...

Did you buy 13 kind of round fruit for new years eve as you celebrate the new coming year? We did. Every year we believe that having a 13 different kinds of round fruit is a good luck to welcome new year. I know it is a superstitious believe but it could not harm to anybody and we love doing it. we normally put this as a center piece in the table. and of course we eat it after. Do you do some superstitious belive?

I have never heard of that tradition before. The only one I would know is starting the year is a symbol or sign for how the rest of it will be. For example if your home is tidy on new years day, it will be tidy the rest of the year or if you cry on new years day, you will be sad the whole year etc etc... I think I will buy thirteen different fruits as I want this year to be a really lucky one for me for a change.

Hi hildas, Actually it should be 13 round shape fruit for it is symbolize money and prosperity, it is a chinesse tradition but we apply it in our home. There is nothing wrong in believing superstitus belief. thanks for the respond.

I think this is probably a culture of your country. We don't have this custom here. But having more fruits is a good idea but it may be a little bit difficult to buy so many kinds of fruits:) Right now it's winter and the banana, orange, apple, pear, grape are available. I don't know how to find other fruits. I love China

I only believe in being up till the new year comes, this is something that I do year after year. And we also have sparkling apple cider. Not for good or bad luck but because I like it.

Same here, we already do it every year, I think it is true for me for even in this hard times for everyone. I dont feel it like other people does. i can still have something left for me. Thanks for the respond. Happy new year friend.

Hi Margarit! We do buy some fruits for new years eve, but not 13 kinds, maybe less than that. All I know is my Mom ask us to be home before 12 at night, because she wants the family to be all together and make some noise to welcome the new year. Merry Christmas to you and to your family.

Same to you Cjay77, advance marry christmas and happy new year. My mom and dad wanted us also to be inside the house before midnight for they said that when you are outside the house it means that the whole year you are always out in the house which is not good as they said. That 13 round fruit symblize prosperity . Thanks for the respond.

hi, margarit i am not superstitious. neither is my mother so we do not gather 13 kinds of fruit for new year's eve. my mom-in-law is superstitious, however, she has to have those 13 round fruits for the new year's celebration. she also fills her pockets with money and wear a blouse/shirt with polka dots. happy new year!

We don't have that believe,but I like it ,it sounds interesting.I don't know where the believe comes from, I guess it's about the number 13 that was thought to be bad. It requires some effort to find 13 kinds.

My mom does that every year/ new year. She has been doing that since I was small kid because I still remember her yelling at me and my brother who kept on picking some grapes from the fruit tray, hehehe . I think that the purpose of doing or completing 13 different types of fruits is for luck and prosperity for the coming year. I am looking forward for some fruits again this holiday season because even if I am not a kid anymore, I still love picking some grapes and still act innocent while my mother is already mad.

Hi iamcdy, Same here, i like to eat the grapes and the apples, but my mom said it is okey as long i dont eat all the fruit.everytime i open the ref i cant help but pick the fruit that i like best. Thanks the respond.
