What? Snow Storm in Southern California?

What are snow tires? How does one put on snow chains? And what is that powdery stuff on the I-5? Oh, how do you wonderful people live on the east coast, Canada, WA etc.? My son is wondering if the school is actually going to call a "snow day." But we didn't know what that was. Kids were throwing snowballs in the school parking lot and wondering who dumped the white stuff on their cars. It wasn't a lot but it stayed. Now, if only I could figure out how that central heating thingy works. Well, at least the sun is out today, but I can hardly type with these cold fingers. How cold is it where you are?

Here in South Carolina we are actually having pretty fine weather for this time of the year. It's up in the 70's for at least until next week. Then they are predicting some cooler weather down into the 60' and 50s We seldom get any snow until January or February. Then only once and maybe just a couple of inches but then it doesn't sty very long. Schools are canceled as is any government offices and many business. We had a terrible time about 10 years ago. People too several hours to go just a few miles. So the governor decided that that wouldn't happen again. We don't have snow plow or salt trucks. People that don't real with snow regularly just don't know how to drive in the powdery wet stuff. December is the month when the kids begin to discuss what to get Dad for Christmas. Some insist on a shirt; others a pair of socks, and the argument always ends in a tie.

People that farm from the usual cold weather seldom do have any really warm clothes. It looks like Las Vegas is having some of your snow too.

Hehehe, they closed all major roads where the snow was dumped. I'm thinking they don't trust us at all to drive in this sludge. The I-5 is a bother though. People were trapped and you know Southern Californians were not dressed for it.

I'm dealing with this central heat thing. Kind of scary. I've opted to just use the little heater for now. The sun is out today but the clouds are pretty gray and snow is still stacked pretty high up in the next town over. Of course, that town is up 9,000 feet or so. We can see the snow covered trees though. Stay warm, Lakota.

Hello gtargirl. It is getting very cold today with strong wind blowing outside the window. It is cold and raining right now. I don't like it so cold. I miss the warm days two days ago. Keep warm, friend.

A few years ago, here in the north east, I was awakened early in the morning by the feeling that everything around me was moving. I thought the sky was falling. I thought my house was falling apart. I freaked out! Pictures fell off the walls, a vase on the refrigerator fell to the floor and shattered. I was sure it was the end of the world. When I finally dared, I got out of bed and turned on the TV, expecting to hear news of catastrophic events happening around me. I was right-- it was an earthquake. It was a little one with its center at least 100 miles from me, but it felt like I needed to say my goodbyes. I guess these things are all relative. You probably wouldn't have even woken up during that earthquake, as I barely batted an eye when I looked out my window a few days ago and saw a fresh foot of snow on top of the 2 feet that were already there. And the school did not call a snow day- some were delayed 2 hours, though. Oh, to answer your question, it is 5 degrees f right now.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Thi sis an unusuall, but not unprecedented, event. Enjoy the snow. Frolic in it. Have a snowball fight with your friends....or your enemies. It's not often we get to experience things that we would normally only find when we travel. So enjoy it. It won't last. Oh. Where I am it's -10 degrees celcius, an dthere is about a foot of snow on the ground. That is actually normal for this time of year.

That we will surely do, my friend. Enjoy the snow. I'm just a little worried when I actually have to go drive out in it. Snowball fight with my enemies, hey? Um, wait, me?? I don't have any enemies, lol. Okay, with friends it is. Hope you're enjoying the your snowfall too, U. Have an awesome Christmas season.

it is snowing here and lots of snow on the ground snow tires are tires that are made so that they don't slide on the ice and snow as much as regular tires, we are used it it here in canada, but that is amazing that you have it in california, we don't get forest fires where I live big it is the city and the forest fires are more out west like in British Columbia, we don't get hurricanes and earthquakes or tornadoes where I live either.

Trade you places,we have about 4 foot of snow,-27 celcius, that would be about -22 degrees fah. more on the way, yesterday, about 1100 accidents, but we are down today to about 80 so far. We normally don't get this cold till late Jan. to early Feb. after 60 some odd years of this,I was trying to find a way of moving to Ca,or onother State so as not to see this anymore, but I guess that is out now. Take care.

It is minus 11 f where I am in Manitoba. Very cold. Tomorrow it is will be up to 8 degrees F. But you have to consider the wind chill and it is way too cold for me. Snow tires have traction because with the snow covering the ice, it is very slippery, and they have a better grip. I know many people here in Canada think that cold is wonderful, but I can hardly wait until summer. Say maybe we do not have to kidnap those global warmers and let them off on Highway One in the middle of January in Manitoba, if it is going to snow down there in Southern California -- they can have a taste of the cold weather there.

over here snow storm warning is quite common, it doesn't happen every day, but maybe 3 or 5 times we will hear it in feb or march people will be warned of snow storm, icy bridges and so on so they can cautious themselves when driving if it gets slippery in your driveway, pour a considerable amount of salt on it over here this salt is really easy to get I don't know where you can get it there I don't drive so I know nothing about snow tires :) I just know that we also have to use special window cleaner for car in winter too only because regular window cleaner won't help melt the snow as it wipes and if it can't melt it, the wiper will be stuck, might as well not drive at all central heating wise, we keep it at 20 celcius in winter this is the temperature the heater will heat our house up to when it gets to that temperature the heater will stop working so we don't have to turn it off or lower if we do turn it off or lower, it will work harder to get to 20 again next time, which means higher electricity bill I don't go out much in winter, not even shoveling christmas or december in general usually it gets to minus 5 to minus 10 the worst of winter can get to minus 20 or minus 40 so some ppl don't call december as winter month yet although it snows already I would call it winter as soon as I see the snow hahah and it already snows here in November :(
