...even just for the duration of the song?

One particular song can bring all sorts of negative reactions in me depending on factors including my current mood, the surroundings, and what I am doing when listening to the song. The least is sadness in the heart and a slowing down of thinking processes. The worst is tears coming out of my eyes and inactivity. The song reminds me of someone special, now no longer living on this earth. all the best, rosdimy

Yes... If the song holds some sort of meaning for the person. Like with me, my best friend was killed 4 years ago today and I can't listen to her favorite song without getting extremely depressed and sad. Then there are some people would take music way to serious, these people need to be locked up. I have heard of this on a few occasions where someone is so into a song because they think it was written about them and their life. So yes, music can depress people. Happy Thursday "Snow Day"

That's just sad. I hope your friend is happy now. That's pretty hard for you to cope up everytime you listen to that certain song which you share with your friend. I don't think people who gets depressed listening to a song should be locked because it may cause him/her to do something which you know what. It's Friday now in our country but still Happy Thursday to you and Merry Christmas! hehe..

I wouldn't say to the point of being depressed but I guess just being sad. John Meyer's Dreaming With A Broken Heart really makes me feel a bit lonely. I don't know, I'm not broken-hearted or anything at all but it's just that everytime I hear the song, it makes me feel so sad. Maybe, it's the way how he sung it, so dramatic and of course, the lyrics and the message of the song. You kinda relate to the song, I guess that's it

You make a good point. Depression or sadness? It is subjective, I suppose.

Yes you can get depressed over a song. My friend one morning on the way to work when I worked first shift started to cry over a song. And said that is so sad. I changed the station. You have a better day. Your friend onlydia

Hi modstar I have been moved deeply by songs. Even saddened. I actually avoided listening to certain kinds of music for a long time because of this. It also inspires me to write. I've written some of my best stuff because a song touched me so deeply.

That's true. While some music can make us sad, some music makes us inspired. That happens to me too everytime i listen to an inspiring song, it just makes me a little bit more creative.

I have seen many good points from other mylotters. I rarely hear to English song, and that because I understand Malay song better. Anyway, depending on what song it is, it can change my mood, and sometimes to the point of depression. Err..just imagine life without song.. :)

Sometimes it does affect me, by remembering people who I miss, people who I loved. Sometimes the pains and the hurts brings me back to the pass that wont come back anymore. There are song just hearing it from the start you already knows the lyrics, that makes you melt like ice, and fire that burns your skin, and tears just comes out of your eyes, and just asking your self why. Have a nice evening to you my friend!

If we're talking about Celine Dion's "I Love You, Goodbye" and The Carpenters' "I Need To Be In Love", then my answer would be YES and not even just for the duration of the song. You see, these songs are the perfect reflection of my non-existent lovelife. How pathetic.

It sure can. Sometimes a song can bring back memories that are so strong it almost takes me right back to a time and place that was not so good and I can get depressed while I listen to the words of the song and remember what I was thinking and feeling at that time. It doesn't happen that often, but it does happen.

There are certain songs that make me very sad even to the point of crying, but I wouldn't exactly call it depression. To me depression is a state of being abnormally sad for an extended period of time. I know I've been there too.
