storing cottage cheese

I was putting away the cottage cheese the other night and when I put it upside down in the refrigerator my boyfriend and his brother looked at me like I was crazy. When I told them the cottage cheese would last longer they didn't believe me, they had to look it up on-line. I thought everyone knew this? (They both cook a lot, more than I do.)

It seems like you have just taught them a lesson on something they're supposed to be good at. Take it as a compliment. I don't know it either but if i see you do it my first reaction would be to ask you why then convince myself that it'll work.

In answer to why, I probably would have said... well my mother always did it. Actually I think it has to do with taking the air out. Regards
I only do it if I know it's going to be in the refrigerator for awhile before using it. It doesn't last long here.

Thanks for sharing this information. I had no idea, but I don't cook. I guess, a person who cooks often would be more likely to know.
