How much do you spend on people at christmas?

I have just been pondering over my christmas shopping list, and looking at how much stuff i still have to buy. All of these gifts seem to be costing me a bomb at the moment, what with the credit crunch and everything. My philosophy is that it's the thought that counts. How much are you guys spending on people this christmas, i know some that spend hundreds on their other halfs??? Is the money better spent elsewhere?

I don't know the exact amount we spent this year. But what we do is put a certain amount in our savings each week just for Christmas. Then when it's time to go Christmas shopping, we divide that money between our kids and spend around the same amount on each one. Anyone other than our kids, we use from our other money.
