You can't get away from Christmas carols at this time of the year. Christian or not, we all know a few. I found myself singing "Silent night" in the car today. The radio wasn't on. nor tapes or CDs, it just popped into my mind and away I went. What Christmas carols have you sung outside of church so far this year. Have you sung one in a strange place at all?

Hmm, does Jingle Bells count? I've had a few attempts at trying not to sing that, but it's hard! I was singing Silent Night a few weeks ago because our next-door neighbours kids were belting it out on the piano for a couple of hours, lol!
What really gets me is the compulsory "Christmas album" that they play in shops - you know the one it has "Oh I wish it could be Christmas ev'ry day'hey..", that song by the Pogues ("and the bells were ringing out for Christmas Day"), Rocking around the Christmas Tree, etc. etc. I think the law says that they have to play it in every shop . I spend all of my time trying extra hard not to join in with that, and it's sooo hard as it's just drilling into your brain.
I know that I sound like a Christmas scrooge, but it's starting to annoy me that we hear the same songs year after year. For me they're just getting a bit old! (Hmm, sorry! )

Yes, no more Cliff please!
I loved Kirsty McColl as well, but yep, that song just comes with all the others and gets played all the time. Just as well not much shopping time 'till Christmas, so hopefully we won't hear them for too much longer. I just have to make sure I don't inadvertently turn to a radio station or tv channel that's going to sneak those songs in...

My all time favorite Christmas song is Christmas Canon. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra rendition is one that I listen to all the time. Then again, I love TSO, so......
SOMEONE, and you know who you are, posted lyrics to I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. I had that stuck in my head for a couple of days.
Shoot, now that I mentioned it, it is there again!
I usually sing in the house, in the car, sometimes I am humming under my breath while buying groceries, and usually it's not the same song the store has playing, either.*L*

Oh, alright! I give up. Earlier, I was listening to the Christmas Canon, with I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas playing in the background in my head!
Go ahead, sing the song, I give up!

I was singing "Stille Nacht" the other day. If you don't know it's the German version of "Silent Night." I was also singing "Der Kinderlein Kommet" "Come All Ye Children" Also in my college I'm in choir and we did a rockin' rendition of "A Merry Little Christmas" from the movie "Meet Me in St. Louis." It's not really a Carol, but we also did a version of Gustav Holst's "In the Bleak Midwinter" that made a woman in the audience cry. That was awesome!

Hi p1ke,
Here is a link to one of my favourites. I find myself singing it (in my head)over and over again. I also have it on a CD. It's the one by Bing Crosby and David Bowie, by the way. It's a classic, and I'm pretty sure I actually saw them do this one originally, all of those years ago, on TV. I also love a 'specific version' of The First Noel, but can't remember who it's by. I have that one on CD too.
Take care.

Because I AM a Christian and love the Lord so much, I listen to Christian Christmas carols, all year. The there is one Christmas CD, by Mariah Carey, it is mixed with both Christian and other-worldly music, but I have learned to enjoy all of it. I do not remember the name of it, but it is the one where she sings, O Holy Night. I have never heard that song sang as beautifully as she sings it.
The first time that I heard it was at a Christmas play at my church. My oldest niece had just done a moving performance as the virgin Mary-it earned her a standing ovation and there weren't many dry eyes in the house. Then to top it all off, my sister's other two girls, of a set of triplets(the other being a boy) were dressed up like angels and dancing to this song.
It was so awesome that I was crying all the way through it. After that, I could not rest good, until I had that song in my possession.

LOL! I haven't started yet, Pikey! In India, the Christmas season sets in later...maybe when there is a week for the big day. And we keep hearing carols all around. Nopes, I haven't started singing carols yet. I am still playing Punkaj Udhas' drinking songs.
Cheers and happy Mylotting

I have been singing up on a rooftop and rocking jingle bells. I am not sure if that is the names of the songs that is just how me and my family identify with them.

Hey p1key! I can't sing so I have to do it when no one is
around except the kittys so they won't tell anyone that their
mommy is singing really badly! I love O Holy Night and that
is such a hard song to sing even with a great voice so I have
already murdered it this year! And also The Christmas Song
too! I haven't sang Silent Night yet, but I will be murdering
that one too soon! I'm not really in the spirit yet even, but
every once in awhile I just start singing usually while I'm
mylotting! Isn't that interesting? I don't have my little
tiny tree up yet either. If I don't finish fixing my
apartment up this weekend that little tree may get taken back
to CVS where I bought it because it just isn't going to be
put up at all!

I got your adorable Christmas card! Thank you! Mine will be
on it's way as soon as I can get some stamps! The store
didn't have any and I'm not near the post office! Everyone's

The only song that I keep hearing and singing is the one "here come the girls" from the boots advert, yes I know its not a carol but it is always played at christmas on that advert! Although I was very pleased to learn the other day that the sugababes have released it!! Also that other one "its beginning to look a lot like christmas" now that is driving me mad I have been singing it constantly. Funnily enough I went out last night and the people I were with were going on about that one and they said that no one seems to know any of the words after the first two lines which is tru and so that is all I can sing of it and then I have to go into hum lol!!

Prolly gave me some of your Christmas Spirit, my dear. XXXXXX

I haven't been singing any as yet. Come to think of it, it was in the office a while ago that I know that Christmas is next week. I have been out of this Christmas thing since my mother die. It has been four years and it seen as if Christmas is not enjoyable since.

Hi ya p1kef1sh
I was singing 'Once in Royal David's City' on the way home yesterday from picking the kids up from school. I am not sure why as it wasn't in any of their school nativities or when we were in church. I must admit that it is one of my favourites though, maybe that was why!
