Can you marry into residency?

My fiancee and I are having a bet. He has a new york license but lives in connecticut so according to him since his license is new york he is a new york resident. I am planning to attend a new york college although I reside in connecticut and I have a connecticut license. he claims if I marry him I will become a ny resident. Is this true?
