Mines, Mines (meaning my telephone)

I was on the phone talking to my daughter a few minutes ago. All of a sudden she just stopped talking to me and was saying "what is this", it sort of frighten me because she at home alone. I said what is it, she replied something is vibrating, I kept asking question because she was just giving me little brief statements without telling me what was going on. Then she stated that she had been to the store and someone's cell phone must have fallen in her bag and it was vibrating. So she was looking through the phone for a number to call to see if she could find out who the phone belong to when the phone vibrated again, she answered it and was trying to find out who this person was calling so she could find out who the phone belong to. The person on the other end couldn't understand her and she couldn't understand that person. So after she hung up she told me the only thing she could understand was that he was saying mines, mines. And he told her that he worked at the Chinese restaurant. The restaurant is near the store where she made her purchases.
It is not far from where she lives so she has gone to take the phone to this person.
Would you have given the phone back?
What would you have done?

I would give the phone back!! Good for her trying to get it back to the owner even with such a huge language barrier. Unfortunately, so many people would revert back to the game we played as kids "finders keepers" and not give it back. It's not about the "Christmas Spirit", it's the right thing to do. You raised her right!

i HATE when people find phones and pocket them lol. i wish more people would turn them in!! and everyone should be required to have themselves in their phone book at the top for when this happens!

That is really weird! I would definitely have returned the phone. Once when my son was delivering pizzas he lost his phone. I was in florida on vacation at the time. All of the sudden I got a call from a woman and she said that she found this phone in her sons pocket and he doesn't own a cell phone. She looked threw the addresses and called mom. I then told her that I was in Florida and thanked her so much. She returned the phone to my son at his workplace. If she hadn't , we would have had to shut off the service and get a new phone.

Yes, of course I would have given the phone back, and as soon as possible! I know what it feels like to lose your cell phone!
I'm glad she was able to understand enough to know where that person worked. I hope there is no misunderstanding on the part of the phone owner and he gets upset with her for having it in the first place! But, I'm sure there is someone at the restaurant who can understand English enough for her to explain how she came to have it. There really IS only one explanation, that it fell into her bag, well, unless there was some unscrupulous person who thought it would be funny to play a trick on that innocent cell phone owner!
But, yes, I would definitely return the phone right away.

Hi Chevee,
That was good the cell phone just falling into her bag like that lol, that chap was very lucky because I don't think another person would take it back, and yes I would take it back to the owner or get them to come and collect it from me. Hugs.

Yes, I agree, TCY. These days, I could see someone trying to get into your home with evil intentions by using a trick like that... putting a stolen cell phone in your bag, then calling it and asking for your address so they could "pick it up".
I say stolen cell phone because that's quite a large market these days, stealing cell phones and selling them cheap. It's easy to get the number of the phone so they could call you, although I don't know how, personally.
It does seem awfully odd that a cell phone would "fall" into someone's bag without the owner realizing it! I hope Chevee's daughter has no trouble once she gets to this restaurant!

Yes, I would give it back if I knew who it belonged to. I found someone's health card on the ground by my mail box one day and I called the name of the company and told them the person's name and they asked me to send it to them. Which I did. I don't like to keep things that don't belong to me if I know who it belongs to. I would hope that if I lost something and someone found it, they would do the same for me. She did the right thing.

Yes I would definately have returned it and here is why I would never turn it in to lost and found at a mall.
My brother is a manager at a mall and he says that cell phones get turned in at the office every day. The last time he said anything about it there were like 25 phones in a box in the office. Once a year they donate them to charities recycling cell phones. According to him it is seldom that anyone comes to claim it which makes sense that if you lose it you probably don't know where you lost it or it wouldn't be lost at all! LOL
When I asked him why they didn't call a number in the phone address book and see if they could find the owner he said " I don't have time to do that!"
So if I ever find one the office of the mall would be the last place I would take it. I would try to contact someone in the adress book and try to at least let them know where it is, then maybe take it to the office.

That is funny, even if you didn't mean it to be, it was.. I can imagine a cell phone, that you never knew you had possession of vibrating in your purse.. It sounds like the person who owned the phone couldn't speak very good English, and that was funny also.. Sounds like a comedy of errors.. I would have given the phone back but I would have had to tell everyone that I knew this funny story..
