The score you are talking about is the "Windows Experience Index". It is supposed to be a guide to how well Windows and Windows applications will perform on your computer. The base score of your computer is determined by reviewing a collection of "subscores" assigned to various hardware components within your computer. Subscores are assigned to the following components: * RAM (random access memory) * CPU central processing unit * Hard disk * General graphics performance on the desktop * 3D graphics capability Your computer's base score is determined by the lowest subscore. For example, if the lowest subscore of a hardware component in your computer is 2.6, then the base score of your computer will be 2.6. The base score is not an average of the combined subscores. A computer with a base score of 1.0 or 2.0 usually has sufficient performance to do most general computing tasks, such as run office productivity applications and search the Internet. However, a computer with this base score is generally not powerful enough to run Windows Aero, or the advanced multimedia experiences that are available with Windows Vista. If you look at the subscores in Control Panel Performance Information, you will see which component is giving you that score. Upgrading that component (if at all possible) should improve the score. With a laptop, about the only thing which it would be viable to upgrade would be the RAM. You might replace the hard disk but you would have to back up and re-install everything, including Vista, of course. I would certainly advise you to remove Aero in order to work within the limits of your PC!

I'm sorry, I forgot to give the sources of reference from which I quoted. First of all, Microsoft's own page: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/experience-index.aspx Next, a Softpedia article: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windows-Experience-Index-Calculate-the-Vista-PC-Score-41047.shtml

Hey, Well firstly, what is giving you the score of only 1.0? Is it because of not enough RAM, graphics card or what? Once you find that out, see if you can upgrade it. If it is RAM, just simply upgrade it.
