Do you drive in snow?

Snow - House across the street from me, so much snow you can't see the road.

Many parts of the world never get any snow, and if they do, it's not real bad. But today we're getting a horrible storm. It's so bad they closed schools today even though the storm wasn't scheduled to hit until noon. It actually hit around 11am while I was out doing my grocery shopping. I left the store and it was clear, half way home I had to drive 20 MPH due to the weather and road conditions. It's snowing so hard right now the plows can't keep up. Here's a picture I took of the house across the street. When I woke up this morning there was hardly any snow out there, I did not need to brush my car off or anything. Now you can't even see the road. The snow flakes are very small, but there's lots and lots of them. It's coming down real fast! Does it snow where you live? Do you make a point not to drive in it, or are you used to driving in a lot of snow?

Well, we don't have snow from where we are and I do find it interesting how to drive on snow. I almost got into a nasty accident just on a wet road alone. The snow in the picture is pretty rough. It seems so thick. Hopefully, I drive on snow one day. I heard chains or salt can be used to gain more traction with the road and make it a whole lot easier to drive. I've seen a video of a street somewhere where the cars that pass through it all slid. Drive safely and happy holidays!

In our area there are salt trucks that come through and salt all the roads in this kind of weather. But salt isn't very good for the cars, it makes them rust out very quickly.

I live a good 2 hours from snow country up in the Sierras and will drive up in the winter to ski. It can get a little unnerving when you can't see 10 feet in front of you because of a blizzard. I just returned from Las Vegas where the worst snow storm in 100 years dropped a few inches of snow. It was so bad that they had to close the airport so everyone was stranded. Oh well, I can think of worse places to get stranded . Needless to say, Vegas drivers are definitely not accustomed to driving in snow, especially the cabbies. There were so many minor fender benders and a few major accidents that you could hear emergency vehicles all night.

I live in Minnesnowta. So I get a lot of snow each year. I actually love it and don't mind driving in it at all. This feeling goes with my kids as well. My daughter and her family drove in a blizzard last wekend and all went well. Other than needing to be towed out once and shoveled out once they were fine. Snow is not that hard to drive in. One just needs to put more space between them and other vehicles and slow down is all. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I've been afraid of driving in snow since I was in an accident in 2001 due to slippery roads. I still do it when I have to, but I'd rather not.

I really dislike driving long distances in the snow, especially if I were to be alone. I would avoid that! I really don't mind driving in it locally. We live in a small city and people are generally courteous and cautious. But if it's ice, then no one should be out till the salt trucks come through. Did your kids have a snow day today? Mine did! We got 6 inches accumulation mixed periodically with freezing rain. Yuck! We've just been blobbing around today. This was supposed to be their last day before Christmas vacation. Oh well, longer Break!!

Yep, school was closed, even though the storm didn't hit until 11am. We were expecting it though, and I'm glad schools did close, it as nasty out there.

No, it doesn't normally snow where I live. Although we've gotten snow here before, it usually melts by the time it hits the ground. LOL The closest I've been to driving in snow was when there was a hail storm. I had been running errands when it hit. I didn't feel comfortable driving it so I decided to stay in my vehicle and wait it out. But it wasn't letting up and I had groceries in the back, so I ended up taking my chances and drove home. The roads were covered in hail. I didn't even know if I was in one lane or hogging two. But I somehow got home safe and sound. I did go to the snow with my mom a few times when I was younger. One time we had been heading home from Tahoe after there had been a snow storm. As we drove there in the snow, my mom may have felt a little over confident in being able to drive on the road with it being cleared. We'll she hit some black ice, slammed on the brakes, and we spun around and hit a snow bank. The car had to pulled out with a tow truck, and once they were able to get it out we drove home, shaken, but not hurt. Heck, even the car (an old Cordoba) made it undamaged. If I were to move to where it snows I think I'd make it a point not to drive in it.

it snows a good bit where i live in pennsylvania. I've only been driving for about 2 years but come winter, i love driving in the snow. For some reason i get some weird rush sliding around and stuff. I even hit black ice before and flew into a field a few months after i got my license but now i've become pretty accustomed to it. Always be care and don't tailgate [:

We get some snow here in Missouri, but not nearly as much as when I lived in Illinois. We have not gotten any snow yet this year. Thank goodness! I hate driving in snow. It was actually in the 50's here today for awhile. We had a rain storm last night. Quite a difference in weather from you.

It doesn't snow often where I live, though it did just a couple of weeks ago. I don't like driving in snow at all, and will only do so if I have to. When it snowed the other week I couldn't anyway! My bus kept slipping and wouldn't go up the slope, and my car wouldn't start at all!

I am terrified of driving in snow and ice. I wouldn't be able to do it and I am always so worried if someone I know has to drive in snow or ice.

Snow doesn't really bother me as long as its not really crazy bad. However, if there is any ice like today in my little town, i refuse to drive. Its too dangerous and I'm too fond of my life (and my car) to risk it. Especially if its black ice, which is exactly what we are dealing with right now. Nope, I'm staying nice and warm in my room and hoping no one gets hurt out there!
