Who out there has been employed by a staffing agency. I am looking at a few local branches of some big companies, namely Kelly Services and Manpower. There are some others around too.
I just wanted to know what suggestions you all have. Which Temp Agencies treat their employees the best, and which have better benefits? Which ones keep their employees working more consistently?
Overall, what have been your experiences with using temp agencies? For those of you who haven't tried them yet, are you considering temp work?

I actually had a great job I achived after working through Manpower here in Minnesota. I had worked with Manpower a couple years when a great temp to hire opportunity came my way. I had never done any machinist work especially running a CNC. So I lied saying it had been many years but I knew what it was etc. So I worked for this company through Manpower for 3 months picking up every little thing I could learn about CNC operations and setup etc. After 90 days I was hired full time by this small family ownmed business. All told I ened up working for this company as a full time employee making great money for 8 years till they broke down due to losses of a couple large accounts they had.

I'm glad to hear that you had a good experience with Manpower. I live right in between Baltimore and Washington, so there are plenty staffing agencies around, but Manpower has perhaps the closest branch to me, only about a 5 minute drive, and right on my way to the gym. I may give them a try. I'll be doing research over the weekend, and then start to talk with the agencies starting next week if possible, but more realistically after the Christmas and New Years laziness at most offices everywhere.

If all you want is a temp to hire position please let Manpower know this so they wont send you out on garbage one day jobs. But if you just want any type of work let them know this as well. The only bad thing is they send people out on a first come first served baisis. So some days I sat in their offices starting at 4 a.m. hoping to get sent out. Good with with whatever agency you go with.
