Then I checked my internet speed,it was 2.5 mbs.
Then I thougt, there may be a problem with the my lot web site server.
So I opened yahoo mail There again there was abnormal delay in opening mails.
Then I used this "System Restore" feature and restored my system a week back.
Wow.Now the system is working fine.So I thught of sharing this information with you.

Never! i find it safer to re-install windows if a problem happens than use system restore.. because it maintains a directory file record structure backup which may screw your new files...

The system restore feature is a very useful tool for any computer. In the past I have had to use it many times because I caught a virus or something and the retore always brought my computer back to working order. I wish all computers had the capability.

Yeah, I've used it a lot when I messed something up! I'm afraid though that it's a quick fix for bigger problems, like a virus. It might make it seem ok, but if it's something serious eventually it could come back! But so far it's worked out ok. I know when windows does that automatic update it's screwed my computer up a lot! I hate the updates! I had one yesterday and my computer was slow. I think I'm going to do a system restore now. Thanks for the reminder!

"system restore" is the most efficiency method to save you from your mess up computer, save that the "system restore" function is not disrupted by the virus. Recently, some virus has ravaged my computer greatly. I tried the system restore but faild. The virus has aleady disrupted it. I have no choice but to reinstall the Microsoft XP.

System Restore is realy a good feature when you mess up the things in your PC, but we have to say it takes a lot unnecessary disk space, since it copies the state of your PC (just files that are changed) every time you install a new program.
This should not be a bug problem for today's HDDs if you dont use a lot of 'heavy' software. I personally have disabled this feature. it failed to help me a couple of times when i neded it.
If you have catched some bad bad virus, nothing than format will help you!!
SO, I make fresh install, with everything i need and then make a FULL HDD Backup (Image) so i can back up in 5 minutes whenever i want.
It may sound crazy, but it uses less space than System Restore.
But this is just another story...
Enjoy....

System restore has resolved quite a lot of problems for me and has saved me the arduous task of reformatting everything. I only used it yeusterday because Windows automatically updated a feature on my laptop and there was a problem with the update and each time I started my computer a window would pop asking me to finish installing software. It did not matter how many times I followed the installing instructions the window kept popping up! The help desk was of no assistance so I did a system restore, set Windows to notify me before updating and "hid" the offending update which was pending. So far so good, so system restore: great feature!

Thts a good feature Muru. I've used it several times. However, jst want to share in case of a virus attack most of the time system restore is not a good strategy to look at coz the virus makes an entry at the restore point itself & most of the time antivirus s/ws don't chk system restore points which may create a nuisance later.
However, just in case you are facing a situation which you recently had its a good idea to restore the system.

System restore is a useful tool especially for noobs. But I personally do not use it anymore. i prefer reformatting my hard drive but I reformat only the partition or drive where my os and programs are installed. I do not reformat the drive or partition where I download and store files. This way, my files remain intact while I install a fresh copy of windows and the other programs that I use.

I think system restore is the best tool that Windows have in its arsenal. The ability to restore your system at a particular point in time is amazing and such tool comes with the OS itself. I know that Norton also has a software like this one but you have to buy it separately.

yes i have used it when my computer starts acting up it put it back at a point when my system is at it,s healthy.you had gotten a virus causing your computer to to run slow and it was taking over your system. you may have to still change your windows if the problem start up again it depends on how deep in your system it had started to affect your computer.

In all my years of using PCs, I have not once used the system restore feature provided by Windows. I work on my PC all the time, and keep adding/updating my files. If I want to invoke the restore feature, I will constantly have to capture an image of my system to ensure that the latest state is kept somewhere in my HDD, and I find that troublesome. I am not keen to restore back to a point weeks or months back, and figure out what has changed after that point. If my HDD gives me a problem, I would rather reinstall Windows (either on the existing drive or a new drive), and put back all the programs and data that I still need. That means of course that the data important to me will have to be constantly backed up somewhere.

I have used the system restore before when I had a bad virus on my computer and I couldnt get it off any other way. I tried doing the system resotre and it worked. my computer worked a lot better afterwards. But you should not use it too much because it is not good for your computer. My husband used to use it a lot on his computer for small problems and his computer is no longer working.

I have been using system restore feature very often. Infact a system restore point is created everytime you install some new program on your computer. You can revert to that point in case you find that the probram is clashing with some other programs and is not working the way you anticipated. some times some files get corrupted. By system restore yo can revert to the situation as it existed at the time the restore point was created. It works well.
