Lazy Employees

Do you know or work with a lazy employee? I've known many. I've pretty much only worked retail or food service, and those places are full of lazy employees. The last place I worked was a video rental store last summer. Most of the time I was alone, which was great, but on Friday and Saturday nights there had to be 2 people on. Well one night I worked with a girl who was so lazy it wasn't funny. As the shift was starting I said that I hoped it would be busy. The busier the work shift, the faster it goes by. Well she said she hoped it was slow because she didn't want to have to do any work!! What??? I'm sorry, you do realize they don't pay you to stand there and look pretty, right? You're not being paid to hold up the counter. You're being paid to do a job. The way I see it, when I have a job, they're renting my time. The time I spend at that job belongs to them, and I must do what they tell me. If I don't like it, I leave, bottom line. But while there I will do what is asked of me, not stand around like a door knob just because I don't feel like working. If you don't feel like working, go home!!! Tell me about the lazy employees you know.

hello katsmeow1213, We are in the world that has two kinds of people. That is lazy and industrious. And because of this, it's so frustrating if we're doing all our best in working so we'll be recognized and there is someone there not exerting any effort but he/she is get paid that much. All she/he knows is do the talking, without any action. In the company I'm working, there's a lot of people who doesn't work that much but still they're the one who got promoted. It's so really unfair but as the saying goes "it's not what you know but whom you know." And because of this, a lot of us are resigning. For us that don't like to go anywhere, we're just doing our best and hoping that we'll be recognized too.

Hi robert,i go along with you. Many years ago,i believe the saying "no pains no gains",but now i think it is not very full right. Most of people are lazy, but they still get lot of rewards, even if they get more rewards than that people hardworking.Maybe that is unfair in the world. But lazy or hardwork just is your different attitude,of course,we still need to do to try our best to do everything to contribution the social.

Every job has it's lazy employees. And nine times out of ten they get paid more than those that really excel at their work! I know it was that way when I worked part time where my daughter worked at the time (a clinic attached to a hospital). We worked in different departments. I worked in the Dermatology department. The one girl who was supposed to be the head one in the department took a smoke break every 15 minutes AND you had to go out on the street - no smoking allowed on the premises of the hospital and clinic, so it took her lots of time! AND she didn't like it when I actually worked and it made her look bad! She took time off and didn't write it on the calendar, so she got more vacation time. She got mad when the manager had me working all day rather than a half day, but the manager said no way would she ask me to come in for a half day, considering how far away I lived (she lived about 5 miles from me). The other girl didn't understand. AND she was also jealous of me because I knew computers and she didn't. My daughter also worked with one just like that. She has gotten out of more work than you'd ever know, AND she continues to work in that same office my daughter left in June. My daughter had worked at the clinic more years than either of the other girls in her office and could do it all, considering she started at the bottom in the clinic and worked her way up to a tech in the ophthalmology department. And both of them made a lot more money than she did! This other woman hated my daughter and did everything she could to get her fired, but she couldn't accomplish it! My daughter knew the clinic was going out of business (the hospital was sold and went under), so she just left and got her another job closer to home. She took a cut in pay but actually is making more now than she was at the other job! AND she loves it!

Good for her! I'm happy she found something she's happy with. Sometimes your co workers are enough reason to make you hate a job. Hubby has dealt with a few that he couldn't stand, and it made him not want to go into work some days.

I am with you. I would prefer to be busy the whole shift than have it be slow. The busier you are the faster the day seems to be over. I have worked with my fair share of lazy employees. The ones who think they can come into work whenever they want and sit around and do nothing the whole time they are there like they are entitled to a pay check just for showing up. I despise that type of person.

Not really. From I left teaching, I have always worked alone in a small office where I am tresponsible for everything. Some days, I may not work as hard but in that case, I take the work home with me to do. I do supervise staff on the grounds eg gardeners etc and am resonsible for seeing that they do their work too. so I try to set the best example that I can. I am there for them but the work must be done. Blessings.

i absolutely work with a lazy employee... it's so frustrating! all he does is talk on the phone making personal phone calls all day. annoying. and i agree - food service has a lot of lazy employees as well, I worked in restaurants for years and found that people will always try to pass things off on others...

I have worked with a lazy employee once in my life. I was in MIS department and I had to complete a job within a month it would have taken full 8 hours of dedication of my employees. Now, I was working with two of them. One of them was very good and dedicated, I was happy with him but the other one always wanted to have timeouts and when I was not there he use to surf internet or play games. I was very annoyed with him and in result the first one got permanent job but the other one got fired!

I work with a lot of lazy employees. I guess because the owner of our car dealership is pretty lenient so a lot of people tend to goof off. I mean working at a dealership can be boring at times when there's no one buying cars or getting service done on them. Everyone gets their work done though, it's not like they just put it off. I used to work at a store too cashiering and bagging.. Those types of places have a lot of lazy workers because they don't know what they're doing or could care less.
