With the economy circling the drain, I am interested in whether people are really cutting back on their holiday shopping this year. My husband and I bought Nintendo Wii for my 9 y.o. son ($200), and an iPod Nano Chromatic for my 7 y.o. daughter ($150 plus $50 in accessories like a case, etc.). Those are the kids' major gifts. We also bought them several less expensive toys and games, as well as lots of clothes.
What is the most expensive gift you will give this holiday season? What did it cost you?

Christmas has proved to be very expensive this year for me and my husband! I bought him a PS3 and lots of games and all sorts of accessories which has ended up costing me over 500 pounds. (I don't know how much this is in dollars)
He has bought me perfum, expensive jewellery and all sorts to make up for it, which means that both of our bank balances have gone up the creek and to top it off, I'm in Germany with hubby, (he's in Army) and all my family and friends are back home in the UK.
It's going to be a very lonely, cheap and boring January!

Be that I don't have much money, this gift isn't that expensive. I bought my mom a new dirt devil vacuum cleaner. I bought this at a discount store, kind of like TJ Maxx and Marshalls. So I got a very good deal. It was worth $250, but was for sale at $99. But I am only paying half of that because it is from both me and my sister. So then the most for me to spend on one gift is only $50.

The most expensive thing i buy will be for my mom. I am getting a carpet shampooer... it's probably going to cost me around $100.. and that's the most expensive thing i've bought... but i don't have anyone to buy for really but my parents and 1-2 other people (thank goodness too) lol but my parent's bought me a Dslr camera ($460 on sale) my brother a 32" HDTV ($388 on black friday) also bought my dad the same thing so another $388 plus tax... and those are the most expensive things we've bought for christmas this year...

I'm not getting anything this year except a $25 gift certificate. My extended family is really large so everyone draws a name and gets whatever the person put on their card, and the limit is $25. Even that will be tough for me this year, but I dont' feel guilty about not buying anything. I don't do Christmas cards, or wrap things either. I love the holidays, but I find all that stuff makes me stressed out so I just don't do it. I think if you enjoy buying gifts and can afford it, enjoy writing cards, and wrapping and decorating...than do it. But if you don't, or can't, than don't do it either because the real gift is spending time with your family you don't get to see the rest of the year!

Thank goodness my son is over that stage, he is now grown and married.. We did go through all of the game systems and they were not cheap.. Now that he is older, married and out on his own, I no longer have to buy the expensive gifts, so this year I bought him a Bluetooth for his phone, and a hoodie, which he has mentioned needing and his favorite cologne, which is fairly expensive also .. I also bought a few of the less expensive items that he has mentioned and have quite a few gifts wrapped for him and his wife.. Most of the gifts are for his house, being newlyweds gives me an edge on the gift buying, and they are gifts to both of them, not just the one.. Thanks heavens he is over the games systems, as I don't think that I could afford another one.. The most expensive gift is the hoodie, it was almost 50.00, and that was a bit much but when buying for the "Big and Tall" man, you have to pay more..
