Has anybody ever had a toenail surgically removed?

I've had toenail fungus on and off for many years and am diabetic. I've tried the usual oral and other treatments, but none ever worked. I had two toenails removed on November 24. You can read about my experience here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1242944/my_experience_with_toenail_removal.html?cat=70
So has anybody else ever had to have a toenail removed because of toenail fungus?

I didn't have my toenails removed, but my mother did, a few years ago. She kept having a recurring fungus as well. She is glad that she had them removed as she doesn't have to worry about the fungus anymore. She does not like to wear open toe shoes anymore as a result of them being removed. She also said that she misses habing her toenails polished.

I've never been into polishing my nails, so I don't have to worry about that. I've read on the internet that some women still paint the toe with no nail. I don't think that would look very good, but to each his own.
I'll just be glad when they are both healed. They are still pretty tender.
Thanks for your response.

I have had a partial toe nail removed due to ingrown toe nails. The only thing that was painful was the shots to numb my toe and the after effects when the numbness wore off. It was very painful then but after it healed, I've never had an ingrown toe nail since! So it was well worth doing and would do it again in a heart beat!
