I use xp as my main os for ease of use. I don't want to try vista since equipment I use such as my midi controller use a lot of memory and vista is a memory hog so lots of it gets wasted on the os. I also use different flavors of linux and I used to dual-boot with xp and linux. The problem with linux is if you're not familiar with command line programming and linux is not as ubiquitous as windows so lots of mainstream programs for windows don't run on linux.

It's better for ordinary surfing, office projects, etc. But when it comes to servers and network testing, linux is the best.

I am currently using Windows XP. I still think that it's better using Windows XP for now as Windows Vista really eats-up a lot of the computer's memory and it's slow if you do not have enough memory for your computer.

Yeah, I don't like Vista much either mainly because I have some old games that are not compatible with Vista. I'll stick with window XP. I don't really see the point of Vista except for its attractive looking feature :p

i used right now is 98se this is my os since my computer was bought from me buy my father. i like to try xp but i dont have a installer of it. if somebody gave me vista. i will rather used 98 than vista. some of my friend say its not a stable os as of now cuz it is prone to virus. like xp when its been 1st release it is prone to virus too. but the new installment of xp are very secure now like home edition and professional. if vista has a new installment it will be great to vista users out there.

I am also using Ubuntu linux,I run virtual machine in it to run windows application.I have also tried Fedora,I think it is also a googd OS which is excellent to use.But Ubuntu might be more suitable for me,coz it is more conveninent to install softwares on Ubuntu.LInux is faraway from malware and virus.I am very satisfied with it.

I have a desktop with XP and my laptop has Vista and I have had a rant about this on MyLot before; give me XP anytime! I found Vista very annoying and not compatible with a lot of my current software which resulted in having to purchase more. I'm not a computer expert but I am getting used to it. I don't really like Vista; too security conscious or something. I was happy with XP and now I can't even find things!

I'm using a laptop, so I had to use Vista because it was already installed. Though I think it's better than XP. It's easier to use, more organsied. I don't know why so many people criticize it. It does load pretty slow, but I'm not sure if it's because of vista or just my laptop :)

I'm using XP. I still think Vista is still too power hungry & does not live up to it's name. I normally recommend my clients to use XP instead of Vista but it seems that Microsoft is pushing everyone to use Vista as the XP is phasing out by the end of this year which is erm...in a few days time? Haha

I too am using windows xp, home edition. I find it ok and I'm happy with it but I still want to go on to vista. Some users say that vista has been having a lot of problems but, with a good book or two I don't see any reason why these little problems can't be resolved. I guess I love getting my hands dirty in relation to my own pc; taking things apart and looking inside and so forth. I want to build a computer from scratch and I will put vista on that computer; that's my intention anyhow! Andrew

xp version of windows have features embedded on the xp. about vista it's have the feature of xp too. if you want to use vista version of windows i guess you have to upgrade your memory and vga because to be able to work your simple pc with the vista. just my opinion.

hello there friend... i'm using windows vista ultimate now... before this i was using windows xp professional... windows xp is really a good OS from microsoft... i think most of the computer users around the world today still using windows xp as their operating system... let me tell you my experience using windows vista ultimate... simply wow... i'm really amaze how microsoft trimmed down the taskbar and completely changed the GUI... the AERO effects also great... i really like windows vista ultimate so much... but when windows vista launched, i didn't immediately switch to it because a lot of people complaining there's a lot of problems in it... let me explain to you what kind of problems this users faced... first of all, the hardware requirement... let me tell you... windows vista is very hungry when it comes to hardware... in order to install and run windows vista, you will need at least 1GB of RAM, 128MB of graphics memory, DVD burner, and also a dual-core processor... that's the at least hardware requirement... imagine what would windows vista ultimate ask for... the hardware support for windows vista is really great and huge... windows xp didn't this much of hardware support... because microsoft added a lot of features such as glass GUI, AERO effects and many more, this requires a lot of hardware support... second of all, the most annoying thing is the user account control (UAC)! everytime you open a application or program, this user account control dialog box will appear asking whether you started this application process or not... not only the first time you open the porgram, but each time you start the program, this UAC dialog box will appear asking for confirmation... i know this is really good security enhancement but not every time! most people will get annoyed by this... even with the administrator account, this UAC dialog box will still appear... this probably another setback for windows vista... third of all, the size of the installation of windows vista... once you've installed it, it will occupy between 4-8GB of space on your hard disk... this is really huge space because when you install windows xp, it only consumes 2-3GB of space only... because of a lot of this features installed, that's why the hard disk space consumed a lot... but overall, if you have a great system with ample hardware support, you can enjoy windows vista at its best... i'm using Toshiba L300 laptop which has dual-core processor, 2.5GB of RAM, 128MB of graphics memory, DVD burner, Wi-Fi, memory card reader and much more... so i can run windows vista ultimate at its best performance... using windows vista is really great but you must have a good overall system at first place...

XP as well.. I think most of the bugs with XP are already addressed. The newer versions, as VISTA, may still have a lot more bugs. Some of my friends who use Vista say it connects to the Internet at a slower rate. Personally, I have not tried VISTA though.
