now instead of suing the people that are downloading music for free/illegally they are going to now check you ip addy and send you an email or something (with the internet companies that are in agreement with them) and tell you to "stop" and if you dont you could lose your internet etc..
hmmm.. seems like it would be LESS scary to do it illegally now than before if you are gonna get a warning letter!! what do you think?

I would think that, unless you are very stupid, you'd stop downloading music illegally after you got that email because you should KNOW that they are watching you! The very first time you downloaded another song, WHAMO! They've gotcha! No more internet!
(Of course, I'm using "you" in the general sense, meaning anyone.)
I think they should impose a hefty fine along with that, though, something like $10,000.00, flat out, no exceptions. There wouldn't be any lengthy time in court or anything like that, freeing up the courts for more important matters.
The current law has scared my son enough that he no longer does it. (He used to... a LOT!) Of course, I told him what 'MOM'S LAW' would entail if I caught him downloading any music from my computer. I think he's more afraid of that than anything else!

well i mean what email would they send it to?? i have like 6 email addys and half i never check so i would be screwed if they sent it to the wrong one lol.. but yeah i would think anyone with an iq would quit after the email but well.. i guess there would just be cyber cleptos out there or something that cant help but hit download lol.. and also what about families that have several kids and 1 keeps doing it etc.. i dunno they need to figure out something better.. right now it just seems as if its giving people the green light till they get a warning

That's true. This idea is full of loopholes and problems that would need to be addressed first. I'd think they would have to send a warning to the actual physical street address of the owner of that computer. That way, it would be more legal.
It would make people who owned computers to be more careful about monitoring who does what, though! Parent's are always responsible for children under 16, so if someone who was 15 was caught doing it on their parent's computer, the parents would have to pay the fine and lose their internet. That should make parents more responsible for what their children are doing on their computers.
Even if the kids have their own computer, as long as they are using their parent's internet connection, the parents would still be responsible. Of course, if I were a parent of a kid caught downloading music illegally, I'd make that kid go out and get a part-time job until he/she was out of school, then get TWO jobs to pay me back!
Yeah, there are a lot of problems regarding this system. I doubt they'll do anything until more is worked on it.

That won't work. How would they know if someone downloaded music without paying for it and if they do ban there internet they can get another internet service and use another computer.

Well, it is an interesting strategy.
I wonder how much of this has already been implemented.
And how many people are going to cry foul over this.
It is definitely worth paying attention to this issue. It is a thorny one that will not be going away for a long time to come!

Hmm... could that explain why there are lesser law suits flying around these days with regards to music pirates or music sharing on the web?
Hmm... I wonder if it will put a stop to the sharing of music totally.

Well this happens in U.S.A. and I'm not really informed about that. In my opinion it is a better idea to send warning letters because suing people seems a little too much. After all if the information is there, why shouldn't I take it? It's the one that distributes it they should sue.
Here in European Union there is a law that tells you can't intercept someone's computer activity to see what he downloads because it's his right to privacy, so technically piracy is legal here. Unless you use it for commercial intents. That always gets you a couple of years in jail :D
So in conclusion it remains to an individual's consciousness to decide if he respects his favourite artists and will pay for their music or he should just p*ss all over their work (sorry for the expression) and download it "for free".

Depends on what you think is worse..losing your internet or being sued. But yeah i am less worried about getting a letter then being sued.

i dont see how they can really stop you from getting the internet since there are always other providers and other family members names to use.. heck even cell phone providers give out wireless internet so i doubt they would have those companies check
