should we be told if we are going to get hit
the end of the world
Should it be announced when the earth has a close call with an asteroid?

i just love it when a few years ago i turned on the radio and they announced how there had been an asteroid that was close to hitting us that had passed and that they didnt tell anyone till afterwards.. then i looked a few days ago and saw that we had another close call last jan 2008 that we almost got hit!! am i wrong in wanting to know beforehand if we are gonna possibly get hit?
hubby says it would just cause mass hysteria but im sure every one has a few things they would like to do if they knew they only had a few days left.. i would want to stay at home and be with my family when it happened and not unknowingly be at the mall away from others and it hit.. not that it would matter but ya know..
do you think they should tell us? or is mass hysteria too big of a risk if they are wrong??

I think the risk of histeria is to great. And there have been so many near misses i just don't worry about it. If its my time to go its my time to go. Also, personally, i would rather not know when i was going to die.

You have a point, but the thing is...people should visit there families more often anyways because we really could die tomorrow.

Hi again moonlit,
I would say : YES
We do have the right to know what is going to happen to us!
That is why we vote and have our representatives at various POSITIONS !!!
The word is "REPRESENTATIVES"
They should do things on behalf of the people they REPRESENT !!!

they usually tell you years in advance, that they are expected this, and I see your husband's point, it would be very scary, especially if they asteroid never even fall to earth. I think if it was really an emergency we would be notified, at least if there were things we could do to protect ourselves.

we get them here on the news, there is a big one coming, scientists don't know if it will hit or miss and trying to make equipment now that will stir it off it's course, it is schedule, in 2030 or 2050 I forget which one.

well i have never seen any warnings before the event but would hear people talk about it after.. unless you go to a website that keeps record and tracks it then you can figure out ahead of time..

you know what I think that's a good idea
if they tell us then we can call our loved ones to say goodbye, cry and laugh for the last time
or if it's possible, we will go to meet them and stay with them until the end of the world occurs
I really don't care about survivality I will leave it to my loved ones
if there is a way to safe ourselves then we will all go
if there is none that we know of then being with them until the end is fine too
I'd like to at least be on the beach by then I'd like the sight of beach and the ocean to be the last thing I see before I die

They should tell us. Hysteria is like over reacting. If something terrible like that would happen, I would like to know. The public has the right to know if something is threatening their (our) safety. People don´t cooperate unless they don´t know what they are facing or what´s at stake.

I would like to know if there was an asteroid coming, but some people would just freak out. I know, it's not nice to know asteroid could hit you and kill you, but then again every day can be our last and it doesn't have to be asteroid's fault. I think we have way better chances to be hit by a car than hit by the asteroid. And will anyone warn you the car is going to hit you? well, not really. So they shouldn't tell us about the asteroid unless they're sure it's really going to hit somewhere in a day.

I think i'd say they do it right - why cause mass hysteria when it happens on occasion they'd end up with angry mobs after them for causing the panic if it didnt happen. Plus i'd rather live life without having to worry we MIGHT get hit by the passing meteor.
