Hi there, and welcome to Mylot. I too was a newbie about two weeks ago, I think you'll find people here are generally friendly and willing to help out. I think the site is very easy to use and learn. So, all you have to do, is pick a discussion you like, or have something to add to, and give us your opinion. If you have a burning question on your mind, post it just as you did this one, and I am sure someone will come along and share their opinion on your question. Many of us here get excited when "newbies" ask questions and try to become involved. We love this because we like members who are active and are interested in meaningful conversation. Sadly, some people post one liners or simply "yes I agree" or "ya ask me too." I find this incredibly irritating, and quite frankly I don't think that this earns the poster much anyway. So, gather appeared courage, pick a discussion and say what you think or start one of your own. As time goes on, you'll find people who are interested in adding you as a friend. This is a good way of meeting new people here on Mylot and finding meaningful discussions. Good luck to you my friend, and happy Mylotting!

As for your question as what to type on tag discussion, you will just type the word that described your discussion. Just for instance this discussion you started you can type mylot or friends. Tag is made to help all discussion organize, this would help us or easy to people who would like to research for a certain topic. You can type keywords that is nearly described your topic. So if you posted something about "the weather", put in "weather" as your tag, or if you posted something about "red is my favorite color, what's yours", put in "favorite color" as your tag. Get it? I myslef am quite new here as well but i have heard a lot from my frined about mylot and i can surely tell that it's a wonderful site to be. As for the TAGS, they are just keywords where others can easily find your discussion based on what they search for. So, the more and the closer related keywords would be best to put in your TAG.
