I'm a beginner too... But I cant afford a nice DSLR, so I found a pretty nice priced SLR 35mm to play around with.

Hello Freezeover
I am from India.
I too cannot afford a DSLR right now. And I am using a Nikon F601. Which I find just great.
How about you?

I agree with 'freezeover.
The choice of camera must be based on ones understanding of his/her needs. But generally for a beginner, a NIKON D80 should be awesome. Buy a lens seperately instead of the kit lens.

Oh.. and to answer your question, I know several pro photographers. They all use multiple cameras depending on what they need to do. One uses 2 really big and really expensive Nikons, and another uses an Nikon with a Canon as a backup. And another (artistic one) uses 2 Sony's. So its really just a matter of personal preference.

Hi, i'm a beginner as well and i'm also looking for DSLR
I'm planning to buy the new upcoming Sony Alpha 500,
It has lots of improvements from the previous models but still affordable
If you're planning to buy sony alpha, i recommend not to buy the previous models
