Last Christmas, my dad gave a pair of cute turtles. They were just a few days old. The were so small. I told my dad it's what I wanted for Christmas when he asked me what present I really like to receive. I wanted turtles because a friend told me in Feng Sui, if I receive a turtle as a present, it brings good luck and success. However, if I buy one for myself, it's the opposite.
They are cute turtles. I named them Arielle and Eric after The Little Mermaid. However, as they grow, they seem to be becoming naughty. They'r not snapping turtles but if you put your hand inside their tank, they'd bite it. That's why my kids never sticks their hands inside.
My maid cleans their tank everyday because the water gets cloudy and it stinks if you let it stay like that even for 2 days. One time, Arielle bit my maid's finger. That night she had fever. I was worried. Spent the whole night researching on the net if turtles had rabies. No, they don't. I wanted to take her to the doctor the next day but she refused and just rested. She was okay the following day.
Do you want to know how to differentiate a male turtle from a female? I learned this when my kids and I went to Avilon Zoo last October. Our tour guide mentioned that if you see the under side of your turtles and see that it's straight, it's a male. If its a bit curved, it's a female turtle. As for a turtle and a tortoise...turtles dwell in water, tortoise dwell in land...

I'm glad you like your turtles that much but I have a scary story to tell you. You can call it a "Haunted House" story.
A cousin of mine used to have a turtle-unforunately,I don't know whether it was male or female.Well, that turtle disappeared one day-everyone thought it just walked into a closet and no matter what they did, they were never able to locate it.
The time has passed, the children grew up and left for college but their parents still swear they can hear that turtle rustling somewhere at night...

really..was it inside the tank before it disappeared? maybe it was able to get out of it's cage and creep up somewhere and when it grew old, it couldn't get out of the space it crawled into because it was too big already. Anyway, turtles are known to last up to a hundred years old so who knows up to when they'll hear that turtle rustling...thanks.
