Well here's a shot from my front deck of what it looks like here in Minnesnowta today. I have blizzard conditioons with about 8 inches or more fallen so far. Sunday early morning my wife and I are off to the Cirque DuSoliel show at the casino. It is going to be about -5F with windchills of nearly -40F when we leave with blixxard like conditions. But this won't stop me from a fre show, free buffet and $60 free cash for gambling all perks from the Casino. Ever drive in a blizzard? Like it? I don't mind when it is something like this anyhow. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I love the snow. I just hate having to clear the drive, steps, deck, and porch is all. Especially when it is really windy as the snow just blows right in my face mostly. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, that sure sounds like a great night out, free show, buffet and cash to gamble, what fantastic entertainment, only wish I lived closer I would love to come along with you and have fun, but I don't think I'd like all that snow you are having or the blizzard. Blizzards are rare in the UK and I don't think I've ever driven in one, but I certainly wouldn't though, it's not me it's other road users who are not safety minded on our UK roads! Have fun my friend, you deserve it!

I guess I should have said to watch the roads and to watch the other drivers. Usually it is the other drivers that you have to watch out for or you get people who, like me, who don't know how to drive in weather like that and they might cause problems.

I have driven in a blizzard to get home for Christmas several years ago...now I am not so sure I would risk it. In the country the roads are really bad as is the interstate tonight. Good luck and have fun at the casino!

When mom was alive I got her and dad both a $150 Mille Lacs Casino package each. Well mom wanted to go on Chrsitmas day. We got stuck in a blizzard so bad traveling up 169N we did maybe 20 MPH tops. Once at the casino there were very few cars but loads of snowmobiles. In fact we only saw 2 plows on the highway in a 3 hopur drive. We had a blast though even if we were nuts for driving in that storm. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

here in montreal quebec (canada) there's so much snow that i had to cancel plans for a little christmas get-together at a friend's house. i was hyped up to trek through it with my thigh-length boots, but she insisted it was outrageous for me to do that, and told me to stay home. i am not a car-driver, so i would have had to walk to a bus and spend 45 minutes (maybe more) on a trip that is usually 15, then walk another 10 minutes to my friend's house, all the while carrying bottles of sangria and christmas gifts ;) glad you were able to get outside despite the conditions...i had no choice but to hibernate, and well...it's not allll bad. i'm watching the old grinch cartoon, sipping hot tea and enjoying a relaxing evening to myself :) but i don't envy drivers out there trying to get around in the mess.

My husband used to love to drive in a snow storm, especially since not many people are out in it..But where we live, if it gets too bad, we have what is called a level 1, 2, and I think 3.. 1 is to caution people, but 2 & 3, if you are caught in it without an emergency, you can get ticketed.. Be careful, load up on fuel, bring plenty of blankets, radio, cell phone, food, water and tools in case something happens, it never hurts to over pack when driving in a storm..

Sounds like a fun day. No better place to be in a blizzard but the casinos. I hope you win a lot. I have driven in a blizzard before, but it was coming home from work, not going someplace. Blizzard conditions can be quite risky when driving, but you sound like you are experienced and will be careful. The visibility is the problem. Hope you guys have a safe trip, eat a lot, win a lot and enjoy.

Yes I live here as well, and yes it is bad out. You be careful as much fun as that sounds your life is worth way more. They should have it cleaned off by the time you leave. I don't like to drive in it unless I have to. I had to go get gas for the snowblower and they couldn't keep up with the snow. So you be careful and have yourself a fun time. don't speed. I enjoy reading all the things you put on here. so stay safe from a woman in Minneapolis.

I don' thinks its scarydriving in a blizzard. As long as one is cautious and prepared for a breakdown things are okay. I have OnStar in my car so if I do break down help is just the push of a button away. The show etc is Sundsay actually. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It sure looks cold up there grandpa bob. Is it actually going to be snowing while you are driving to this shindig? I lived in S. Dakota one winter and I remember snow like that. You needed to know where the road was before it snowed because after it snowed you couldn't tell where the side of the road ended and the field started.

Drive careful, bundle up, have fun and I hope you both hit a jackpot. How long does it take you to get to the casino? The casinos in Detroit take me about an hour to get there, thats in good weather. I have ventured out in bad weather to go there. If you got the itch to gamble, you just got to go. We had an ice storm the other day. Now we have really cold temps and wind warnings. Its Sunday afternoon and the temp is about 3 degress and falling. The wind is atrocious. Is so cold it hurts. I plan on hybernating for the next few days. I was out earlier, don't want to go back out. I wish you and the family a Very Merry Christmas and a most Joyous New Year.

Yuk! You're welcome to all that nasty white stuff. We rarely seem to get much snow were I live, not in recent years anyway. In fact we are so unused to snow that even an inch or so is enough to bring everything to a grinding halt! They'd probably declare a national emergency if we had that much snow!

The snow does not bother me near as much as the cold. As long as my heater is going, I am good. I live in the Hudson Valley now and we have gotten some snow in the past few days, I consider it a snowfall, most of the people I work with view it as near catastrophic. I am from Buffalo, if you can see a quarter mile in front of you, it is not a blizzard and anything less then a foot is a frost. I remember driving in the blizzard of '77 ( http://larc.hamgate.net/blizzard_of_1977.htm ), I was going to give blood in downtown Buffalo that morning, I had my sister with me, she was 11, in the 15 minutes we were driving it went from a bright morning, to almost dark as night. There was 0 visibility. I could not see the side of the road that I was driving on. I decided to turn around and take her home, well that 15 minute drive turned into 2 1/2 hours and at least one or 2 feet of snow. I ended up spending the blizzard at my parent's house, stranded. About 4 days later, we were able to get out and drive to get my father who was at an aunt's house, the main streets looked like a bad movie, abandoned cars all over. A neighbor got home and the only thing he could see of his house was the chimney. If you use that as a standard for a blizzard, most things are just a light snow fall. I am with you, go for the show but pack for the night if necessary! BTW--how was it?

snow - snow flakes
I have never even seen a blizzard. I lived in New York for tow years and we got a couple of inches but that was it. It was pretty tp look at but i hated driving in it. Now I am back in Georgia and it has been in the 70's here for the past week or so and is supposed to be that way for at least another week. I dont think I ever have to worry about a blizzard here.
