All my family members leave for office in the morning, and my kitty is ever ready to bid a goo bye to each and everyone! But, surprisingly though, she runs away when we spray deo (on ourselves obviously). Not only the sound of the spray, but the sound of the bottle also makes her scared. Does your cat react in the same way?? I would really like to know.... P.S: I have never ever sprayed deo directly on her with the thought that may be, some reaction can take place on her.....

There are two possible reasons for her being afraid of the deodorant spray. First, the sound of the spray is similar to the sound of a snake hissing. Which triggers the fear and self protection instinct in the cat. (I had the same problem not only with my cats but also my dogs) The second reason is that the cat's and dog's sense of smell is so much more acute than humans, and all the chemicals in the spray along with the scent has to be terrible on their sense of smell! It would be like our removing the cap from a bottle of ammonia and taking a big whiff! Thankfully you never sprayed her with it, as the chemicals in the deodorant spray are toxic to cats when they lick themselves to clean their fur. Plus a certain amount would be naturally absorbed through their skin.

The sound of the aerosol hurts her ears and probably the smell of the chemicals are unpleasant as well to her sensitive sense of smell.
