Did you ever tell them what they wanted to hear and not what they needed to hear

My girlfriend asked me should I take my man back as he said he won't drink anymore and he won't cheat. Well, she already did. So I just told her what she wanted to hear and that was yes. I also told her she should make him go to AA but one never knows. She has a 5 year old boy by him and she thinks that with him there things will be better. Should of I told her what she didn't want to hear? That they are better parents apart. That maybe the son should go live with his father? As he is a better parent on all the learning things in school. I don't know anymore she will do what she wants anyway. That is why I told her what she wanted to hear I guess. I can understand why you did what you did, but she does need some advise from someone that can help her..not that she will do it, but maybe someone that works as an adviser who she can go to to let her know she doesn't have to put up with things like that..that she can be strong and is strong..nothing negative, but someone that isnt a friend that has nothing to lose..

Oh I have done that with her. I gave her a # for abused woman and she never called it. We tried the alanon thing with her. That didn't work as well, her daughter told me to just give up as she has. And she is now 27 and she won't help her Mom anymore until she stops doing the things that are bad for her as a person

I always stay on the fence and say...you gotta do what you gotta do...I don't like giving advice on something that strong unless they insist. I don't blame you ...seems like when you tell someone something they need to hear they get mad at you!
