I love to write poetry. I was wondering if there is a site that will pay for you to write new poetry besides Helium. I have tried looking but I have not had any luck at all with my detailed search! Maybe you could help me with any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

From the various discussions I've seen on AC, Helium, Triond and other subjects, it's very difficult to make money with poetry. People who enjoy it know where to look for it and most search engines rate poems down (they don't often contain marketing keywords, after all). Unfortunately, the English-speaking world doesn't appreciate its artists as much as it should.

Thank you for your wonderful answer to my question. Your right, it may be very hard to write poetry and make money for it. I still long for a site that is dedicated to poetry!

Like you, I'm also in search of a great site which pays people to write poems. I'd like to do this not only for my interest in writing prose & poetry, but also, I have to double my efforts to earn as much as I could while I still have a job. I'm afraid that by the end of the first quarter of the coming year, I might lose my job because of financial difficulties facing the company now. Modesty aside, writing poems is one of my hidden talents which I have discovered when I was still a high school student almost two decades ago. There were a couple of instances when I gave 2 different sets of poem compositions to 2 of my classmates. Both of them were amazed to find out that I'm able to compose poems. One classmate even asked me to write a poem for her, which I gladly did. And there was one situation when our teacher in World Literature subject had to give up teaching. The reason behind that decision wasn't clear. Personally, I don't know whether she was reprimanded by the school authorities or she had to giv up teaching because one of her children was seriously ill. But the whole class absolutely loved her because she was good as a teacher and we definitely learned a lot from her, academically and otherwise. On the day she bade us goodbye, I was able to create a poem while I was crying, literally; before I gave it to her as a thank-you note and goodbye-gift. After that, I realized that I found it easier to write poems when I'm sad or ecstatically happy. But it's been ages since I wrote my last poem; due to hectic routines and no inspiration. Happy holidays.

Making money writing poetry is very difficult. Most publishers only pay a dollar to ten dollars per poem! It helps to compile a small book of your poetry and then try to sell it as a collection.

I to am a poerty writer. the only site I have found that is close is everydaypoets They are willing to accept peoms but don't pay much. And it takes a month or so for them to either reject or accept the poem. And the price you get is very small. I don't rmember off hand what it was. I am still looking around.

If you don't mind taking my referral link, then please send me a PM :) There is a site that is very much like Helium but the restrictions to "what to write" is less strict so you can post more, and their audience is varied so you can choose what you want to write - poetry, prose, how to's, reviews, etc!

Poetry is a pain to sell. Your best bet is to do it the old fashioned way. Write enough for a book. Self publish it and market it to your local community. A lot of places will let you get on as a guest speaker as a way to promote your book etc. Do some peotry readings and get people to buy your book at the events. Sell them to stors etc. Good luck
