I am using OpenOffice for a long. Yes, as per popularity it is far behind of MS office. But one thing one should be in mind that none can disagree on the contribution of Microsoft. Before the arrival of Microsoft computer was not so easy to use. Many of my friends who are master in DOS accusing MS for it. But later on many operating systems have developed. Openoffice has developed itself for office suits. It has all the features of MS office. The uniqueness of the software its sharing with other programs. We can easily open edit and save a MS office documents (word, excel, access and power point). It has some extra features. The available features are as follows:
Openoffice.org base && same as MS Access
openoffice.org calc && same as MS Excel
openoffice.org draw && same as ?? paint(?)
opeoffice.org Impress && same as MS Power point
openoffice.org math && same as ??
& openoffice.org writer && same as word
The two extra features I have not used. But I use writer and Calc regularly. You can easily download it. If you was near to my place I can give the CD (original). It is free to share. At present I have newer version (3.0). The delete and print option in Calc is completely different from MS excel.

Great suit of programs and works as well if not better than MS Office.
The only thing to remember when using it is to 'Save As' in Word .doc or Excel .wks format if you wish to share files with other people using MS Office. Naturally, by default, it saves files in it's own format unless told to do otherwise.
It is a huge download so I used a copy taken from a magazine cover disk. Much easier.
I understand that a lot of offices are now going over to Star Office and rebelling against paying £400 for MS Office for each PC in the building.
