Say Cheese!!!!

My friend was ready with the camera in his hand,he wriggled his hand to position me into a humble position in the frame. I was accompanied by two girls whom i had just met, one of them was draped in a saree and was carrying a effortless smile , the other one seem to give a very sensuous look to the camera. I was completely lost of expressions,my facial muscles jammed and got stuck.Suddenly my friends voice broke the scene "Smile Please..Say Cheese".Click went the camera. And the result ,as expected.. completely lost, hideous, repulsive face between two beautiful ladies. I love to come in pictures , but most of the time i hate the result . Sometimes i feel the camera cheats me and doesnt show me my real picture, cause in the mirror i look smart . I would love to know from my fellow mylotters what do they feel.Personal tips are most welcome.:-)

Well, you have to experiment and see what angle you look best. Get your cam and take several angles of your face /body. Then when you find that perfect angle, try to pose with this angel everytime your picture is taken. I'm sure there will always be one that would look terrific. But if still, there is no remedy, then fret not, most people know that pictures are misleading. The proof in the pudding is in the eating, so to speak. so cheer up, it's not the end of the world. happy holidays.

i agree!! why else would they take like 500 pics a session with models?? i know when ever i take pictures of myself for my profiles etc i take at least 100-200 at a time and i have found which angle works best and now i pose that way with out thinking about it.. kind of annoying though when you look back and you look the same through most of them lol

Haha I know the feeling! I also love pictures, they're a beautiful memory, but I usually look silly/creepy/strange/ugly/downright hideous/stupid in them! And I've always got red eyes too. Posing is very difficult for me too, I never know how to smile nicely, it always turns out different from what you imagined, it usually looks forced and not happy at all! Most of the time I also close my eyes on the exact moment the picture is taken, or just about to close them, giving me a sleepy/high look... Yeah, pictures and me aren't a great combination, still I love them for the memories! Sorry I can't give you any tips, the only one that sometimes works with me: think of something funny/a happy memory if you need to smile on a picture. You can also try the funny look, the people that are always pulling a face in pictures, the clown. The result won't be pretty either, but sometimes it's better and funnier than the 'Oh My God I don't know how to look'-look or 'I'm forcing a smile because there's a picture, not because I'm really happy'-look, if you know what I mean lol!

Thanks for your comment..i am quite hesitant to try out the funny look that you have mentioned .it would certainly not work for me..what i feel comfortable doing nowadays is to smile with my eyes and refrain to trouble my cheeks or lips..also i make sure to be candid, natural and casual in front of the camera ..so no more wan smiles...

I'm not a big fan of the funny look either, it just doesn't fit my character. I gave up on smiling too some time, but then everyone was saying I was too serious, I may seem quite severe to people I don't know, my casual look is rather stern apparantely!

I think some people are photogenic and some like me just are not. If you think about all those photo shoots you see with models? Well there is a reason for a stand by makeup artist, thousands of lights for lighting, and a complimenting back drop. Oh and don't forget all the air brushing going on. Since I don't have any of that stuff I do whatever I can to get out of having my picture taken. If nothing else just enjoy the two beautiful women in the picture!

Hahahaha - I certainly identify with what you are saying, Maverick! I'm always sure I'm not a strange, obese, twisted, mentally challenged criminal in real life - but for some reason that's what the camera always shows! I avoid having my photo taken like I avoid poking myself in the eye with a burnt stick. In fact, the burnt stick would hurt far less ...

Some people are just not photogenic. I know I'm not so I try to avoid getting in pictures. Sometimes its not possible to avoid though so I just take it in stride.

I know what you mean. Some people just don't look good on camera. I know I don't. I think I look ok in the mirror, sometimes pretty. But I look absolutely hideous on camera. Don't try very hard to look good on camera. If your smile looks effortless, you look better. LOL.

Thats the same thing with me also..i mostly feel that these cameraes lie because as you have said i also feel that cameraes do lie as they show my image in the very worst way and i really hate seeing them and sometimes i think it is really the fault is on our side since we dont give nice expressions that really suit the lenses of the camera and we sort of give expressions which the camera takes in the worst way..the most probable remedy for this would be first you will have to suit yourself wit the camera..so that your image comes in well...happy mylotting...

You and me both ha ha!! I rarely get good pictures. But sometimes it's from the moisture of your face. That's why people powder up and stuff because when the light flashes you get every single detail from a shiny face.

Hahaha.. I don't really like taking picture because I don't know how to pose! I always turned up to be the freak one in picture. Hahaha. Plus, it's unnatural, like in other responses above, it's like forcing your face muscle to smile. Nevetheless, I don't really mind people taking candid picture on me - as long it's for good. The naturality can be seen from my candid picture. Haha.. Anyways, I think you might want to think that you are not in taking picture session sort of speak. Try steer your mind to a happy things that could make you smile. Then, perhaps you will see the smartness of you picture, plus with the smile on it. Goodluck!
