Some people think Chatting is stupid and bad. My mom is the leader of them. I don't remember how many days i was scolded for that when I first started to chat and she saw me on PC for long time. Well she had a reason behind, a valid one, which I will tell you later, if anyone is interested to know. But that reason is not relevant here in this discussion.
Let me tell you what I got from chatting. It gave me typing speed. Believe me, from the very beginning, even when I didn't have computer of my own, i was concerned about increasing my typing speed. I used to go to my cousin's house and play typing games there. I even brought an unused keyboard from him just to practice without any monitor and CPU !!!
But to tell the truth, those things did change my typing speed but chatting did the most of it. Actually when you chat, you don't really think about typing, you think of communicating, and that's too as soon as possible. This is what works as vital. I will love chatting for this one reason.
I will not say chatting is vital for learning efficient typing but yes this is one of the most easiest way. But my suggestion again would be, learn the correct finger use at first, to place your fingers at the right place and once you know that you can jump to chatting and increase your speed.
This was my story. In fact chatting gave me two more things. But today I wrote about the most important one. So share, what the attraction to chatting gave you what.....
Do you care to share?

i'm agree with ur opinion.Chat can make type faster.but not the right one. u can share any information with ur friend, can create relationship on that.relationship just for fun not special relation.
i'm not often for chating.i'm online just for downloading, browsing, and surfing. i'm prefer three of them than chating.

I don't chat very often any more, but I think that chatting has been useful for me in many ways. I have learned to type faster and I have become less perfectionistic. I prefer to write perfect sentences but I have become better at accepting spelling mistakes or typos and I have learned to concentrate on communication instead. I have also had many interesting conversations with strangers and I have learned a lot from that. People have told me about their lives and I have been introduced to things I had never heard about before. I have also become better at starting a conversation with a stranger.

I started to chat since I was 15. That was a bit late I guess but only that time my parent bought a computer for my brother then I started to use the computer. Chatting is very useful I think very benifitual. First of like you said it really help in typing speed. I've learn typing totally from chatting because I have done nothing else than chatting. hehe. Besides it also help me in improving language and learn about people. and meet real nice people all around the world. Now the attraction to chatting is I think I have met someone special from here. Now we chat everyday from time to time.

I used to chat when I was younger as I thought that it was cool, people in my family were concerned though and I was scolded as well. I am not really sure whether chatting gave me a faster speed at typing, but I do think that it had a hand in it. It is true that it is better to start with typing games and programs as you use proper wording instead of abbreviations like you do not do in chatting.
I will admit though that I find chatting foolish now, I did chat less when I got into High School, and started picking it up more so when i met my fiance to whom I now live with.
Have a wonderful day.
