In these times when everyone is rushing to be somewhere ,either that are going to work, going to school, late for an appointment and seemingly endless number of activities, very few people seem to have time for these common courtesies. Consequently most persons just walk past each other as if they are invisible and this is I believe especially true of town areas .
What is your experience where this matter is concerned ? Do you still say good morning and how many persons actually answer you. Also how many persons say good morning to you on average ?,lets say out of ten.

When I traveled in the buses I say Goodmorning some will answer others ignore. I don't paid them any mind. In the buses and taxis whenever I entered them I used Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening. You see ronny whenever I do these greetings it always make me happy so I don't let the negatives stop me.

It seems that that aspect of our culture is dying out ,I too find persons rarely extend that courtesy to their fellow men especially in the town areas. I must admit that I have been falling into that mold myself of not saying morning but it is because of the fact that persons rarely answer.

I say it as a greeting to family, friend, and people I tend to see on the bus or waiting for it. I also say good morning/afternoon/evening if someone approaches me. I only say if I don't think someone is too busy.

hi ronnyb, my dear friend, i still say goodmorning to people . i do get response, but yes, the percentage is less. at my working place, yes, everyone answers, but outside, there are only few who answer you. some dont even give a smile. its so bad, i feel. the good thing which i love is that if i wish to any school going kid or even a college going student, they always reply me back. i donno why it is so. kids, i believe reply back because that must be taught in their school and college going also answers because they in that frame only.other people dont answer much because i think, they are tooo busy to greet someone , not known to them, be it just be good morning ot good evening.

Due to my new life style of not tearing around after kids anymore as my son is quite independent and gets himself up for school fifteen and he loves school so I know he goes and I can trust him.Thr whole point of this rambling means I don't do mornings on the odd occasions I do venture out.I do say good morning to people I know or pass on the thin pavement.Normally it is good afternoon!!!!!!!

actually everyday i say that to all people i knew and also everyone answering me warmly.. i think it is just matter of the people around us, and i feel really lucky because everyone is responding, even with a simple nod and smile without saying anything, that would still proper. so it's 10 out of 10.

Working as a postman I say good morning on average 25 - 50 times a day.. Mainly from people aged 30+. When I first started working for the postal service it surprised me because normally i'd never say good morning to anyone on the street, infact i'd only ever say good morning to the neighbours if i bumped into them, when letting the dog out..
Nowadays saying good morning has become part of my daily job and I would not feel right if i stopped saying it.

In the house, we are not much into good morning or good night things…maybe good night, but in the morning all of us are too foggy anyway. But in office we all wish each other first thing in the morning. Maybe if some day some body is already late and running past us or somebody is not in a very bright mood, then that person will skip the wishes but other we all wish each other. So its like 8 out of 10.

My boyfriend and I say good Morning everyday.
I dont tend to leave my house very often in the morning, so I dont hear it every day from other people, but If I ever go out for coffee I probably hear good morning from a stranger at least once.
What about you?
How often do you say and hear good morning?

I usually say it to just about everyone that I come across. Some say it back and some don't. It doesn't bother me when they don't say it back. I even got my three year old to say it when he gets up. It is so cute. He will get up and say "good morning mommy". Oh I love it. I look forward to it every morning.

I usually greet family members, friends, and neighbors. I'm not the person that would greet a random stranger, unless they greet me first. I'm always in a rush in the morning, and I don't have a lot of time to spare. The number of people that say good morning to me on average out of ten would probably be...1 or 2. LOL

A good friend of mine who lives in the apartment under mine in a four plex comes up every morning for coffee before going to work. I say good morning to him when he comes up even if he is in a grumpy mood. He repeats in kind maybe 50%. Other times he will say, yes it's morning. He has been through some unfortunate circumstances and I don't blame him. He's been happier and saying good morning more often since starting on some anti-anxiety medication.
If I am out somewhere in the morning maybe 2 out of ten people who I have interactions with will say good morning first. Usually about 8 out of ten will say good morning if I say it to them.

I am a school teacher in a rural school with a professional and supporting staff of about 75. My classroom is in a wing of the building that house the 7th and 8th grades with 5 teachers on our wing. The teacher's lounge is across the hall from my room however which allows me to see many in the morning that i do not see for the rest of the day normally amd sometimes for a week or more. I find it rude to walk by someone and not at least greet them with a good mornong. It is rare for someone to not respond. Usually due to preocupation with something. I don't take it personnally unless it becomes a habit. I always try to compliment them on an article of clothing, hair, etc whenever possible. I feel this leads to better working relations on the occasions that we may work togethe either in an inservice or attending a workshop. IN my profession you never know when that person whose day was brightened by something you said is in a position to help you as a collogue.

Yes, I still say goog morning to the people when I see them the first time in a day. Why not?
I think it is polite to say that to the people around you. It is a kind of custom to most of us. On the other hand, I think if you see a person you know him and he knows you but when you see each you never say one words, it is so impolite.
If I say good morning, most of them could give me a response.

I do say good morning to people that i know - family, coworkers, neighbors, etc. I don't say it to people rushing on the street. People always greet me back when I greet them. Sometimes, a simple greeting can even lift a person up when he/she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. And when we initiate the greeting, they can't help but to respond. =) What bothers me though are those people who don't even acknowledge those security guards who greet and open the doors of establishments for us, those who work in restaurants or stores who greet us. Some people just walk in and it seems as though they didn't hear the greeting.

I try to say good morning to the most amiable looking people. I always smile at the people I pass but sometimes I do skip the good morning if they don't look like they're up to it. I would say 1 out of 10 people say it to me and that's only cause I rounded up. It's unfortunate.
