So I'm thinking about buying a new laptop and want to know what all of you would recommend. I need something that I can do a lot of video editing and converting and things like that, you know, things that hog all the memory, haha. Anyways, I'm looking at a dell xps 1530, with all the higher end specs, but I need advice from all you techies out there! Thanks!

Yeah, when I built the laptop online it gave me an option for 8gb ram, with the 64 bit Vista OS. I was totally pumped!

If I would do some video editing, I'd consider the following; 1) Upgradability of RAM to 3 or 4GB (dual channel mode would be better) 2) Dedicated Video chipset, not shared. you might want to look at units that have NVidia Quadro (at least). 3) Screen resolution - for video editing purposes, you might want to consider WSXGA+ (1440x900), so that you have lots of screen real estate, this is normally found on higher end laptops, this is one factor for the price differential as well. and lastly, your choice of video editing software, whether it is a windows only software, or they have versions for Mac. From my personal experience, most people I know who does video editing, went for Mac Book Pro, upgraded their units to 4GB (Mac will recognize all 4GB, because OSX is a 64 bit OS - Windows XP 32 bit or Vista 32 bit will not. Although 64 bit versions of Vista and/or XP will be able to take advantage of 4GB RAM, but that is another story) happy lottin.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop. It has 250 GB of space, which is more than enough for me, but I don't know about you. I have a lot of homework, but that doesn't usually take up a lot of space, so space is never a problem on my laptop.
