What do you do to motivate yourself?

Makes sense doesn't it? The secret to staying consistent with your goals is to stay motivated. That means finding ways to fire yourself up on a daily basis. Being inspired at a seminar, by reading a book, or while talking to a dynamic speaker is easy. But what happens when you're on your own? To follow through on that burst of motivation and reach the finish line, you need regular booster shots. Give yourself those little positive reminders that you have an important job to do and a good reason for doing it. What's pushing you? Surround yourself with visual, verbal, and physical "pep talks" that trigger that motive. It doesn't take long for dust to gather on your momentum, making your goals turn stale. A daily dose of motivation kicks off the dust before it can settle and gives you a fresh, clean start.

I try to stick to a schedule. That way even if I can only post, I am still writing everyday. I try to set up a reward system, for example after half an hour of writing I can watch a trashy movie on t.v. or read a book. I also use my friends as a support system to motivate me and remind me of things I want to do. I think it is very important to have this reward system when you have a big goal to accomplish.

Starvation.
I'm not talking about just food neither.
Mental deprivation is all the inspiration you need to motivate yourself.

Hi! What motivates me are my past achievements. When I have so many deadlines that I have to meet, and coming up with challenges, I would always think of my past accomplishments and how I was able to cope with the blocks to my progress, then I would feel motivated again. This happened to me these past few weeks when I was getting anxious and weary about my two deadlines. I was able to get through them again, just by motivating myself.

For me, I'll watch movies or listen to music in order to motivate myself. It helps me quite a bit. Watching a good movie or listen to music by my favorite band is what I do help myself get a little more motivated. Especially when my motivation is really low. Sometimes I'll even go to the school gym, which only a few steps away from my residence apartment.

The way I motivate myself is by looking back on my past mistakes, accomplishements and decisions. Each of these things makes me who I am, was and will be. And knowing that everything can change in a moment is motivation enough for me to never give up on anything, dreams included. Because it may not be exactly as I planned, or when I planned it but it definitely happens and it is gratly appreiated. And that is motivation enough....
Thanks for the thought provoking discussion. It made me smile.

I often get a role model and watch them for a while. Like in karate I admire my sensei. And in guitar I want to play jazz better so my role model is a guy named Markus Hippolit. When I feel like not doing stuff I just think of being better than them or being like them and performing together and boom. Instant self motivation

This has been a fairly new area for me! I used to feel so low, depressed, no motivation whatsoever! However, things are starting to change now and I have been indulging in positive thinking and I have also been listening to positive thinking tapes. I'm finding that these actually work and I'm noticing quite an improvement; I'm no longer walking along the negative thinking road, it's almost like I've had a spring clean of my mind! I recently purchased tapes by Anthony Robbins, I don't know whether you have heard of him but he is an American Life Coach and he is full of inspiration. Whenever I need a good kick up the backside I just place one of his tapes on and this seems to do the trick. Andrew

If I felt so demotivated, I will leave my work and start searching and read some motivational articles. By doing this, I managed to increase my motivational level. I have this book titled "It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be be" by Paul Arden. The book is so easy and simple to understand. I like this book.

You're so right. It's easy to be inspired at seminars, or by books, etc. And inspiration is wonderful. However, motivation only comes from within. As much as we can inspire others or be inspired by others, we can only motivate ourselves. Nobody else can put us into action.
In order to motivate ourselves it's necessary to have a goal. To know what it is that you want. But even more important than knowing what you want is to know why you want it. What is your purpose behind your goal. What are you working so hard towards. And the answer is not "the money". Although money is what we work for it is not what we work towards. It is only a tool to help us gain those things that we work towards.
For example, your purpose may be to buy a new home, to take your family on vacation, to put a child through college. You have to know your "why". For it's your "why" that will motivate you to get out of bed each morning and get you doing what you need to do even on those days when you don't feel like it. And we all have days like that.

This is something that I struggle with, so I'm glad I'm not the only one. I honestly just have to remind myself of what I want and how far I've come every time I want to give up or relax.
