The series defeat at home against South Africa reconfirms this theory. Australia is an aging side, low on confidence, weak bench strength & with a incapable leader. The performance of Hayden proved that their selection policy was wrong. Ponting's leadership is just mediocre. A team filled with bits & pieces cricketers like watson, symmonds, white cannot stake claim to be best team of the world. Their bowling lacks sting & is not suited to different ground conditions. They were short on confidence even before the defeat to India. australians packed their team with batsmen to avoid defeat. The latest world team announced by guardian newspaper did not have a single Australian in the team ( i personally felt that Hussey deserved a spot). This is a further proof that the kangaroos are on a downward curve.

Yes i guess we are seeing the beginning of the end of glorious era of australian domination in world cricket.Everything which goes up has to come down.Who could have imagined that the Australians who kept on breaking the world record of most consecutive wins, has lost three matches in five tests.

The Australians are quite low in confidence and all the credit for this goes to the Indian team. They (we) are the ones who started their downfall right in their own backyard with Kumble as the captain and leading the team quite and truely in the right spirit of the game. First it was the ODI victory in the CB series. Then the big big win at Perth - which was rightly termed by a newspapaer as the birth of a new ear. Then when the Aussies, came over here in India, there too we spared no thought for these guys. The Test series 2-0 win out of the 4 Tests was a major boost for us. All this was carried forward by the South Africans, and I congratulate them from the bottom of my heart. The only saving grace for the Australians was the win against the New Zealanders. The frustration of loosing twice to India, the slow over rate and the non-performance of the pacer Brett Lee all coming into account. Ricky Ponting this time too got no good words for Lee who could all but manage a solitary wicket in the whole game. The 'new-age' cricket by Ricky Ponting disappeared into thin air ages back. The win for the Africans too came at Perth. It seems the Tests at Perth will always keep haunting the Aussies for days to come. I still want RSA to go all out for yet another win and yet another win. CONGRATUALTIONS TO SOUTH AFRICA!

i dont think this is because they are lacking in confidence i think this attributes to the lack of talent and experience in there team as well as the fact that three of there experienced players lee, ponting, hayden are badly out of form for some time now also the quality of new players like peter siddle, krejza is not up to the same level and hence australia find themselves struggling. they are relying too heavily on johnson to take wickets and hussey to score runs while clarke and symonds are too inconsistent to rely upon.
