Once, one student reported a conversation in class as follows
Student A= Hey! Our Arithmetic teacher is superior to all our mothers,
Student B: Why do you say so?
Student A: Sometimes mothers have a tough time making one child fall asleep and they need to resort to a lullaby for quite a few minutes. Our teacher just starts talking and the whole class can fall asleep.
Have you felt so bored in your class that your eyes refused to stay awake? Have you had immense fun watching someone battle with his sleep and struggling to keep awake?
Once, in my music class I had a bunch of students and many of them were very small [Grades 4, 5, 6,]Apparently ,one child had to attend a swimming class and then come to my class. All my students were screaming their lessons in full-throated enthusiasm, while this little one was nodding his head, barely staying awake. I was so entertained, it was unbelievable. That poor little one had to attend the music class much against his better judgement and for the sake of his over enthusiastic mom.
i will never forget this funny episode.
.As a student, I have not really slept in class though there were times when I had been bored to death. But it is extremely funny to see people nodding and falling off in the midst of a serious lecture .
Students, you must have had different experiences .Do share -I would love to hear them all

Haha, well, start of this semester I fell asleep in the middle of a lecture. It was in a very big room, 400+ people attending the lecture, so I don't think the professor noticed it! I sometimes am very tired or bored, but never fell alseep before that, and never did after. The cause was, I'm in university choir, second year now, and the board had asked whether I wanted to organise the welcome party (so the new members get to know every one and stuff), which I did with 3 others. It was stressful but fun to organise, and of course we had to stay till everyone had gone home, clean and close the place, so it was around 6 am when I got home, having that lecture at 9 am. Most people wouldn't have gone, but I have my principles (and a bet with my classmates lol): if you can party, you can also go to class. So I slept some 2 hours, got up, drank some coffee and went to the lecture. So I was physically present, but mentally...
It's quite sad, as you mentioned, when little kids got so tired and stressed because of all the 'hobbies' they do, or have to do from their parents. I don't think they enjoy it very much, or learn so much from it when they don't like what they're doing or do too much.

Well,I too will fall in sleep when I'm in my classroom. If the class is so boring and the teacher is there I'll fall in sleep. I don't know why?? but most of the time my economics miss will turn the whole class room into a bedroom where all the children will sleep without making any noise. in fact the class will maintain perfect pin drop silence..lolzz... :D

GUILTY as Charged.
in high school, my literature lessons were normally after breaks. given the fact that our text was julis ceaser and NOT "romeo romeo for where art thou romeo" but "art thu you brutei" and with a monotonous sounding and low pitch female lecturer, it's not very hard to doze off.
we'd just use the book to cover our heads and just nod off to la la land. that half and hour usually boosts our energy and attention for the upcoming maths lesson.

What a pity!
In my high school, we had Julius CaeasAr for detailed study.
There was a nun Sister MARIE LOUISE who handled our class. She taught this play so well, that you would not believe what I am going to write next.
I finished my high school in 1971 and though i did study Shakespeare's plays in depth[many other comedies and tragedies] this one was not one among them in my later classes and I was virtually out of touch with this. But in the year, 1997 [after 26 yrs of out of touch ] I got a student who came to me for her correspondence course[long distance learning English]private guidance[I taught students on a private basis and did not seek employment]and I had to read and explain Julius Caesar.I could remember it as well as if I had left school just a few months back [it came all flooding back ]and I give full credit to my teacher for this.

There was once in my school year that I have felt so sleepy that I thought I would sleep in the class, it was hard for me to stay awake, coz aside from the teacher who is boring, the time was in the afternoon which is the best time to have a nap...
What I did was to ask permission to go to the comfort room and there I would splash some water on my face so as to keep me awake...

You did a wise thing. It is as someone pointed out, very rude for us to sleep when there is a teacher in the class room-it is indeed disrespectful, however, boring the lecture is and howmuchever droning the voice is.
It is a lesser evil to keep your eyes wide awake and mentally switch off.

I was one of the students around which soon started getting bored in the class room.I always used to sit on the last bench of my classroom so whenever I felt sleepy, I went to sleep without even the notice of the teacher present in the room. But once I was caught sleeping in the chassroom and was punished by the teacher.

I never fell asleep in class when I was in high school or grade school but I sure did a lot of napping in college! There were just more tv shows and more computer activities that kept me up late when I was in college, so when I had an early class I always fall asleep. I don't want to get caught though so I only sleep for a few minutes and my brain just wakes up...

Yeah I fell asleep in a lot of my classes during school I think mainly because of lack of interest or motivation. It wasn't really that I didn't try it was more that I didn't care. I don't know how people expect you to want to do things that you don't care about and that you don't think benefit your life at all. To me I thought it would be more beneficial to sleep then to learn about some crap that was rather unimportant to me. What do teachers expect when we have to get up for school at like seven o'clock in the morning sometimes earlier depending on where you live. I think that taking care of yourself and getting enough sleep is much more important then going and learning about some stupid things that no one really cares all that much about.

While I do fall asleep during lessons. It is not that I want to fall asleep but just that I am too tired from work or rushing assignments through the night. I also noted that one can fall asleep when there is a surge in blood sugar which will cause one to feel sleepy. So my advise is to control your sugar intake in a single meal. Food that contain high sugar are rice and potato so do take note. On a contrary, when you are sleepy, slight surge in blood sugar can keep you away. The way to do it is to maintain a balance, not too much or too little.
