The month of December is one of the most awaited month of the most of us. Why? It is because it's Christmas, it's the birthday of our Jesus Christ. But do we really ask oursleves what is the true essence of Christmas? If all of us people in this world are really enjoying the season?Well, I would really say that very few people understand the true essence of Christmas and the sad part of this yuletide celebration. Christmas is said to be the one of the happiest moment of the rich, but the miserable moment of the poor. WHy? Well, let us have to meditate for this issue. During Christmas season, the rich people are very happy. Very happy buying new clothes, delicious food, going on vacation here and abroad. They are busy spending for themselves. They are really happy celebrating the Christmas season. On the other hand, if the rich people are very happy celebrating the Christmas, here comes, our poor borthers and sisters. They are just there in one corner, looking the stuffs that represents the Christmas celebration. They are just there, looking to busy rich people who are doing shopping and buying delicious food. They are just there, smelling the smell of the Lechon or whatever delicious food their neighbor are preparing. Very very sad to know these realities. These poor people, could'nt afford to buy even a piece of bread for Noceh Buena whilethe rich people have plenty of foods in their table and if there are leftover, they just throw it,while the poor ones are suffering from hunger. I realy feel sad.. Now, we have to think for this reality. That in this Christmas season, we have to celebrate it with its true essence. That these rich people would share their blessings to the poor people, that these poor people would experience the happiness that the rich people experience. Let us have to think this. Let us celebrate Christsmas with love and sharing to others. Let us unite and let us help these poor people atht even just this Christmas season, they would not have a miserable moment, but instead they would have a moment of hapinnes.

Take a look at the Christmas classic novel by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. The miserable, unhappy but filthy rich Ebenezer Scrooge vs the financially poor but love rich employee (can't think of his name right now but he is Tiny Tim's dad). They say that rich people are generally not happy. Sure they enjoy their toys that their money can buy them...for awhile...until they get bored with them and think they need something else. What do the poor have? If they have a good attitude, they will realize they have love, family, togetherness and all the other joys that money cannot buy. Scrooge soon learned this lesson as he travelled through the night with the ghosts that visited him and he found that real happiness came from giving instead of hording it to himself. Yes it is good to give to the needy at such a time as Christmas. But it is even better to give all year long. The joy comes in the giving...in the loving and sharing. Maybe the old saying You can't buy happiness is wrong on one count...you can buy happiness if you buy it to give away!

What a true statement that is. I have seen a trend in my own community that either reflects the declining economy, or merely the lack of giving present here. I am not sure which, but either way, it is a bit depressing. I walked into the local store, just yesterday, and couldn't help but notice how full of names the Salvation Army Angel Tree still is. I know that my family has donated quite a bit to this cause this year, more than ever before, simply because we were able to, but never have I seen so many little children's names left on the tree this close to Christmas. That being said, I still believe that Christmas is becoming to commercialized and less and less people are remembering the true meaning. I do my best to teach my children that Christmas is more about giving to others that receiving things for themselves. I am happy to say that they live and learn by my example as I do from the example my parents set for me.
