When I was a child my family had cats all the time, a rabbit when I was 4 and she lived a wonderful life, budgies, gerbils, stick insects and more rabbits when I was a teenager. I dearly loved all my pets. I always dreamed of getting a dog and in 2004 I bought a white and black dog called Secret. In 2006 I bought a black dog and called her Magic.
Which type of pets did you have when you were a child?
Do you have the same type of pets now?

I grew with dogs and yes I have dogs now too - I also had a rabbit and gerbils which were great! I would have a whole farm if I was rich and could afford the upkeep!!! lol

I had the regular cats, dogs and birds as pets when I was a child. My grandmother, in whose house I grew up, did keep a menagerie of ducks, pigs, a goat that became my pets at certain points. My playmates and I loved to catch grasshoppers which we would release right away, but there was one time I tried to "tame" a grasshopper to keep as a pet. I failed of course. To be honest, your post caught my fancy on account of your mentioning stick insects. I've never heard of them before. I looked it up for more information. Fascinating!

Oh, and as an adult, I've only kept to taking care of cats and dogs. Right now I have two cats who love to act like cat-and-mouse or cat-and-dog whenever I'm around (they're mostly quiet when I'm out of the house I'm told).

My father always had rough collies when we were at home. I went into rough collies when I moved out and went into my new house. I love the breed. They are adorable. I have opted for shelties because of size. but I still love rough collies.

When I was a child, I had some white mice as pets. They were given to me by my classmate. I love my mice pets which were so cute and adorable. Though it was decades ago, I still remember them.

I always had cats. I can't live without one. Cats rule this planet.
As a young kid I had bugs and caterpillars. I was only allowed to keep them for a few hours to a day then they went free. Not really pets, but...
As a teen I had hamsters. I would breed my female once or twice a year. Hamsters have a 2 week gestation. The pet store gave me 50 cents per baby. The food cost much more than that. I would put the $2 toward the food bill. My mom paid the rest of the food bill. That's the adults responsibility.
I had fish in my twenties and have an aquarium again. Nothing fancy. I currently have 1 goldfish and one pleco in a 30 gallon tank.
I have 2 dogs and a ton of cats. Half of my cats are for adoption. A few are either unadoptable or I won't part with them.

Growing up I had dogs, a cat, seven rabbits, birds, fishes and chameleons. I liked dogs best of all. Now I have 2 dogs and I can't imagine life without them. I recently asked my husband if we could have a cat, but he seems to think that my dogs will kill it.

When I was a child I had many cats, not all at once, but always had a cat. Often they would have kittens. I had a pony and jack rabbits as well as 101 white mice. They just kept having babies. We had chickens and my siblings had dogs.
I never had a dog of my own until just this past summer.
I put my wish out to the universe and behold, I was granted the most beautiful puppy.
Exactly what I was looking for. She looks completely Yorkie but is a mixture of a Yorkie, Shitz Tzu and Maltese.
I wanted a small female dog. I wanted to name it Rachel.
When I got my dog, she was already named, Roxy so I have kept that name because she knows it.
I do not have the same types of pets now, that I had as a child.

Yes, I have the same kind of pet that I did when I was younger. I got my first dog at the age of eight, and besides a dog the only other kind of pet I had was a goldfish. And that was it. And today I have Sherlock, a dog that is so sweet and very close to my heart. I'm not closed to other types of pets, but I would need to have a yard if I was going to get more pets. And living in an apartment, I don't have a yard.

Yes, and no. I had cats when I was growing up, up until a few years ago. I had a couple of rabbits and a hermit crab when I was little, too. And even a horse and hamsters when I was a preteen-teen. But I don't have any of these kind of pets now.
My parents had a few dogs when I was growing up. And I even had a cockatiel back then. Now I have a couple of dogs and a cockatiel. Though I'm still a cat person in my heart.

Hi Maxine, When I was a child I had, dogs, budgies, guinea pigs, rabbits and a tortoise. I was never allowed cats as my mum wasn't keen on them. As an adult I have a dog, two cats, two rabbits, very large stick insects and fish. I would love another tortoise as I loved mine but they are just so expensive these days. I would have probably still had Lucy even now but she was stolen :( I would never have caged birds as an adult as I believe they should be able to fly free. I guess I do have the same pets now with the addition of the fish, cats and stick insects. Huggles. Ellie :D

Yes I do.
I have always grown up with dogs.
I have a one now with my two kids.
I also had fish and we did have a fish tank for awhile also.
So yes I have had the same family pet as I did when I grew up.
