I am a white American Male, just so you know where I'm coming from. I lived abroad for about 10 years. This gave me the opportunity to see the U.S. from a very different perspective. I was amazed at how different my view of the U.S. was when looking from outside looking in. Again, so you know, I feel very fortunate to have been born in the USA. I served in the American Military and I served in Vietnam when we were involved in that war. If anyone would like to discuss that issue at a different time, I would be happy to answer your questions. But, right now, I am really interested to hear all your thoughts about what the USA is doing all around the world, what you think is important to the average person in the street in the U.S. If you have traveled to the U.S. what was your impression. I promise, I would love to discuss your negative views as well as any positive views if there are any out there. And as this progresses, I would love to engage you in a conversation about my feelings of not only the U.S. but your Country, or your culture. Thank you for your time, and for your thoughts.

This is quite a tough discussion and that may involve a little political views but let me distant myself in that part as far as can be. Well, as everyone perceive America is the melting pot of the west and the land of opportunity. Immigrants would flock to America looking for their chance in life. Americans as I see it are liberal thinkers and are diverse. The political greed of its leaders has led to many war in other country like the Vietnam war and the Iraq invasion. This has led to loss of countless lives. The global perception of the US changed, and suddenly the ethical and moral high ground was destroyed by needless bloodshed and political interference beyond the scope of their global role.
Maybe my country Malaysia is not as strong as America in so many aspects, power and politics. In some sense we are also liberal in nature but we are ruled under a constitutional monarchy. The official religion is Islam and being a minority we are at a lost and at the mercy of the people in political power though we are guaranteed a freedom of worship but more often we feel oppressed by how the Government of the day rule and divide the country.

I think that the USA is a wonderful country filled with opportunity for everyone. I also feel like many of those who are coming to our country forget that and are trying to change us to be more like the country that they came from. The USA is supposed to be a country where we all have opportunity, and freedoms not in other countries around us. Too many forget that, and want us to change our national language, and change so many other things that make the US what it is.

Thank you Lynnemg. One of the comments I hear allot is that many of the people who migrate to the U.S. resist moving into the U.S. way of life. Our country is only about 500 years old. In the grand scheme of things, we and our culture is so very young. When others come to our shores, they don't realize that their contribution by assimilating, the culture moves a little more toward a common foundation. I am anxious to collect as many answers as possible so I can look at the common demonanators and see where we are and where we are going. I will keep you all posted as this evolves. Again, Thank You.

I'm a Chinese.I don't know exactly about the U.S. We are so different in many aspects like culture, politics, customs etc. that we don't understand each other very well. I don't want to make a comment about countries , in my opinion, all countries are the same to some extent, thay all persue their own profit at all costs, and I think it's hard or arbitrary to judge what's right and what's wrong. I just want to show you my impression on the USA .I think it's a great country, the law, welfare, freedom and so on.Of course , there are some customs I don't like, but it's OK ,it comes from different manners of living, it's not a big deal.Anyway I like America.
