Is it considered to be re-gifting if it's donated?

I just responded to a discussion asking about re-gifting and it got me thinking about whether it is really considered re-gifting if you donate the item? Let's say you get something that just isn't for you, or that you already have - is it considered re-gifting if you donate the item?
Every year after Christmas my son and I go through our things and whatever we don't want or things we think we wont need we donate - whether they are old or new.
Do you think this is more acceptable than re-gifting to another individual, or does it make a difference? Honestly, I figure that as long as the item is still bringing someone joy it has served it's purpose and this way it is bringing joy to a stranger and me - because I get to feel the joy of helping someone during the holiday's. I get joy two-fold!

I don't think donating items is considered re-gifting. I consider donating, whether old or new, donating. Regifting would be taking the item that you were given that is new, and then passing that new item onto someone else for the holidays as a gift.

I think to donate the things that do not suit you you a lovely idea, I think it is such a shame that people have to hang onto things that they don't really want when someone could get a lot of joy from that same thing. After all it is the thought of the gift that counts anyway what happens after that should not matter...
